Long time hunter, but its my first year bow hunting. Been hunting hard since opener but hadn't seen a deer in daylight hours since Oct. 8. This guy stepped out and was grazing on alphalpha about 150 yards down the field. Then something got him spooked and he started running my direction...fast. As he got closer to the tree line, he settled down to a good trot so I drew back and when he was 15 yards, I gave him a "meehh" and he stopped in his tracks. I let it fly and hit him hard behind his right shoulder. Later confirmed double lung. I know he is all broken on the left, but I didn't care. Mature buck and after not having seen one since early Oct., I wasn't passing him up. Besides, he is big bodied and I love deer meat. He Is a trophy for me and one I will never forget! And I have learned a lot on this forum over the past few months, so thank you!
Nice Buck Congrats... Don't talk him down man he's a great buck, IMO if you shoot a deer you want to take there is nothing wrong with that no matter what equipment you shoot it with.
Thanks guys for the looks and replies. I'm still re-living the whole thing in my mind and grinning ear to ear. The more I look at pics of him, the more I think he just looks cool even broken. Good to put a brawler down! Again, thanks for all the helpful tips and posts over the last few months. Sure helped this new guy learn a lot.
Congrats. I remember my first bow kill like it was yesterday. Any deer with a bow is a trophy, especially when its a buck and your first one!
