    Hi Gals and Guys,

As the title says i'm an old guy from Colorado. I'm an elk hunter who has used rifles all my life. Muzzleloaders and Winchester 94 30-30. My style of hunting has always been as close as possible while using still hunting as my method of choice. Bowhunting has always interested me, and i've said all my life that I need to try it.

So, being the type who always commits 100%, and my all or nothing attitude. I sold all my guns, and will commit to just bowhunting from now on. I'll be 73 in Dec, and I figure it's now, or never. I wanted to use a longbow, but thought it might be too much at my age. I lost the sight in my right eye 10 years ago, and had to switch to shooting left handed. No big deal with a gun, but my weak left side is a challenge to draw a bow back. So, I went with a compound. It's a PSE Stinger X in black. (too old school for camo) I'll just start at 35lbs, and add poundage as I get stronger. I should get the bow Monday. I'm like a little kid waiting for it. I love starting new adventures.

Anyway, that's my plan, and I thought hanging out with other bowhunters would be a good thing to do. So, here I am.

    Pete

As Lucky Ned Pepper would say, "...I think that's bold talk for a one eyed fat man". But no really, have fun and go for it.

I think you will like the stinger. I have a PSE Vision that I use for target shooting and I love it. Welcome to the sport, and good luck in the woods.

That's good to hear. So many choices I had a hard time deciding what to buy.

I actually started as a bowhunter. My dad shot a bow in competition target shooting, so of course I had to do it too. The problem was my dad always hunted with a gun, so I followed that too. I always wondered what sort of hunting career I would have had if I had stayed a bowhunter. All I hunted for as a kid with a bow was rabbits. I loved it, and should have followed up with deer and elk hunting. Oh well. Better late than never.

    Here's me in 1950.

I game too. Grand Prix Legends. I have for 12 years almost everyday, except during elk season, and of course scouting.

I could use a lot more energy. Mountains I used to sprint up, I now climb like a turtle. Given enough time, I get there though.

One perk of being retired is I have lots of time.

Well, I got the PSE Stinger, and shot it. I didn't like it at all. Keep in mind that I used a flintlock muzzleloader to hunt for everything, and hated inline muzzleloaders. It doesn't surprise that I wouldn't like a modern bow. It's just not my style at all. I love the traditional stuff in bows and guns.

So, the compound went back, and I have a Bear Grizzly coming. Now, this doesn't mean I have any bias to any one using a compound. Everybody is free to use what they want, and it's none of my business. It's just not for me. I'll be happier with a recurve, and instinctive shooting. I thought about a longbow, but feel the recurve suits me better.
