Looking for inspiration from some of your Hero Photos and Hero Photo tips. Any tips that people have to share. Camera setup. Composition tips. Anything to help take better photos. Stuff for joes and pro.

Trying to take better photos myself. I'm the kind of person that appreciates a good photo over a good mount.

Yeah, I'm not a photo artist by any means but a long arm pic like that doesn't do any justice to you or your deer. Photography tricks aside, long arming like that throws your face off focus from the deer because of the extreme differing planes in the pic confusing the camera setting.
I like the deer and the night time pic, makes the deer's colors pop.

Guys...it's not long arms...it's wide lense. The hunter is out of focus because appeture is set very open to gather more light. Tried to get the stars in the pic....you can seem them on some digital devices. Probably a part of the state with the least amount of light pollution.

Also looks to me like a long arm picture. It may be a wide lends too. Still a nice picture and a nice buck regardless.

Jesus. He is not 3 ft behind the deer. Can someone who has more experience than a cell phone camera chime in. I'm not looking for photo praise or critiques. I'm looking for someone like Fitz to comment with tips on taking good hero shots.

Like this: if your camera has a remote setting, pick up a cheap IR remote. You can really get clean night images using the remote.

No need to try to re-explain the purpose of the thread unless you're trying to redefine it now, your OP was pretty clear you were asking for tips and pointers from and for everyone from "Joes to pros". If you don't want what you asked for then don't ask for it on a public forum and it might help to not post a pic of a guy at nearly full arm extension and then try to say it isn't but rather an effect of a wide angle lens. I may be a camera phone hero but even I know when someone is pissing on my head and calling it rain.

Seems to me like you are getting what you asked for.. everyone has their own opinion on taking pictures with deer and it seems that you dont like it. "Composition" would be where the guy is, where the deer is and where the camera is... but Im just a simple joe that uses a cell phone, so what do I know..

Thought this would be a productive thread. Thanks for the input guys. My take away so far is don't use a super wide lense.

The guy is not trying to stretch his arm out. It really is the lense distortion. Is the deer in his lap? No, he's sitting ad close to the deer as we could get him.

Taking a good photo is tougher than you think. I'm not a pro and I don't get a lot of chances to take these types ofphotos. I personally like the wide angle look I think it makes the deer the focus of the photo and that's what I was going for....along with trying to pick up that crystal clear star filled sky that night.

It's funny. I share this photo on facebook and all the non-hunting comments say "gorgeous deer". I share it in a hunting forum and all the hunters are worried about the hunters arm. Says a lot.

I'm pretty confused on what you're looking for then or the point of this thread? You asked for opinions and clearly got them. No one said it was a bad deer what so ever? You wanted opinions on the picture itself and that's what all these guys did.

It would be a productive thread if you could accept the fact that you're totally busted and stopped trying to say something isn't that clearly is. Body mechanics clearly prove he is holding that deer's head at arms length with his wrist resting on his own knee. If you want pointers from deer hunters on what "not to do" in hero pics then that's what we are telling you....don't do that because it does a disservice to the deer and the hunter alike and no...you aren't good enough with a camera or BS to cover it up because clearly we all picked it out. A wide angle lens isn't making the hunters arm look extended when it isn't....sorry it just isn't.

I think most of us commented that the deer is nice and/or pretty...no idea what that has to do with the initial request for pointers for better deer pics? I think that says a lot about you sir, specifically you were more interested in showing off your "skillz" than actually fielding opinions from experienced hunters.

Place is starting to sound like another site. Congratulations on a great buck and don't worry about keyboard sportsmen.
