Good read Justin. I really like that you stressed the importance of treestand safety. I still meet people that hunt without safety harnesses and it amazes me. It's a great opportunity to give someone education on its importance.

Justin, great article. Being new to bow hunting this year I can use all and any advice and tips from a veteran. Just using this site and watching the Bow Hunt or Die shows have already proven to be invaluable. Keep up the great work.

I'm guilty on 3 of those this year. The worst being tracking the animal too quickly I wish I didn't make that mistake.

Falling Asleep! But i guess that goes with paying attention. Although i have woken up to deer right below me and who knows, they mightve seen me moving my fat head around if i was awake.

    Great stuff.

What I'm learning as I mature as a bowhunter, is the difference between the guys who consistently produce and those who walk away with only good stories is simply a matter of inches and who has more discipline.

I think most guys know this stuff these days, but it's the ones who are willing to maintain the most discipline with them that seem to be the most consistent.

    Thanks for sharing!

Back in the '80s when I was 12ish, my dad and I hunted some public ground and we had some homemade wooden lean to stands that were about 10-12' tall. Well, I fell asleep one morning in my stand and I woke up about half way to the ground as I was falling. That had to be one of the scariest feelings I've ever had. Luckily I wasn't hurt too bad. Just cut up from falling into a blackberry bush. That was the last time I fell asleep in a stand....unless it was a box stand.
