While climbing a tree this afternoon I watched my Climber Top literally bend before my eyes. This happened at roughly 10-12ft off of the ground, I'm thankful that I wasn't any higher. Even though I baby my equipment and "hang n' hunt" so that all of my gear is stored indoors, the unthinkable can still happen. Please go check your gear and don't overlook anything. **If anyone knows what brand this is please message or PM me. Thought it was a Summit but I was mistaken.**
Alright originally I thought this stand was an OLD Summit.. Turns out it's NOT a Summit. It doesn't appear to be an API either and the stand was given to me by my Uncle who doesn't hunt often so now I have no idea as to the actual brand. I honestly thought it was an old school, pin style Summit. Regardless whatever brand it is, they're not reliable. I'm 5'11 160lbs for perspective and this thing got mangled, so just imagine had this been a 220lb+ guy! A couple guys over on Archery Talk said I had the cables too loose and it "cammed" the stand and bent it down but I always attach my stands at 45 degrees and climb up. I've also used several other brands of climbers and have never experienced any troubles. The pictures shown are AFTER the arms bent in and the "V" bent straight up, giving it the illusion that I had the cables too long.
Ol man? I know they have that mesh seat, not sure if its one or not though. Either way, glad you are ok.
No, I have no clue as to the brand of this stand. I have a Lone Wolf Assault with some XOP sticks, that's going to be my go-to public land setup from now on. Carries much easier than a climber anyways
Yikes, that could have been costly!! Second hand stands like that can be death traps if you don't know what you are getting.
