Just purchased 40 acres and need ideas on how to hold bucks on the property. its 35 acres woods and 5 acre field do I plant different types of food plots on the 5 acres and put some in the woods to. And should i do hinge cutting in the woods to make beds. Just don't know were to start.
Google pic would help, Topo pic might help more, what surrounds your property, any water on your place, what kind of trees are your woods and surrounding woods made up of?? That's a couple quick questions. "Live Life at Full Draw"
Congrats. Leave it as a sanitary for them.IMO Try to leave it as untouched as possible and just find a few good trees on trails for a hang on and cut some lanes, then just wait for season to open.
Wait until next year to make those decisions. I'd hunt it as much as you can this year as that information will be very valuable when you start your foot plot planning this coming spring.
Sounds similar to my land, I also own 40 acres and 34 of mine is woods and 6 is open on top or the ridge. I have hinge cut two big bedding sanctuaries on my west ridge. I enter my land from the east so that was the deciding factor where to make beds. Great advice so far, you want to leave a lot of your property a sanctuary for the deer to feel safe. If your land doesn't have water, put in a water hole. Its a whitetail magnet and except for hinge cutting, the best improvement I have seen as for as deer usage on my land. I also have about 2 total acres of food plots on top and do hunt it but mostly I hunt around it or parallel to it. I don't know where you are from but give them clover, brassicas and a cereal grain and you feed them year around. Your best friend is a chainsaw, its amazing what hinge cutting does. Scoot
