what do you considered a button buck? pic #1 pic #2 for me I consider a button buck to be pic #2 I would shot pic #1 for some tender meat. Is this wrong?
I would consider both buttons, and personally wouldn't shoot either on purpose. I've taken a couple in my hunting career, but in both cases I mistook them for does.
same here....both....usually I mainly refer as it when they haven't broke the plane of the skin....but with almost literal "buttons" id go with that too. id let them walk
I think they are both the current years fawns but pic 2 is technically a spike and probably early born. "Wrong" is in the eye of the beholder. I'd not shoot either one on purpose, personally I'd eat beef, pork or chicken first. It's wrong to me, for me or for my management goals.
I don't call anything a button buck. I just call them male fawns. I wouldn't consider a deer to be a spike unless it has a least 1 inch off bone showing. I don't shoot 6 month old deer but I wouldn't pass judgement on someone else for doing so as long as they have a tag for it.
It's up to you if you think it's "wrong". But if you would shoot #1, why not #2? They're both fawns. I wouldn't shoot either
just how my dad taught me. the one with antler not showing is harder to tell sex. (hope that make sense)
Either of them could be this buck.. thats if they weren't shot for being born a month apart. Just sayin http://www.realtree.com/deer-hunting/galleries/photo-gallery-from-buttons-to-booner
I would call both button bucks. This would be what I deem a small spike. As for shooting them, it's all about your goals and what you are after. A deer is a deer is a deer. It's as much individual choice as shooting a doe with her fawn, do what makes you happy not what others deem acceptable.
They are both button bucks. The top one has longer hair and slightly smaller nubs likely. But, both are basically identical. If you would shoot one, you may as well shoot the other. I personally don't shoot any young bucks.
I would pass on both. I have accidentally shot one button buck, mistaking it for a doe. Personally, I would eat tag soup if I knew it was a BB.
