I shoot 125gr Ramcat and was thinking about dropping down to 100gr.

Any guesses out there as to what I may pick up in speed and or lose in KE? And would that drop in KE be worth the pick up in speed?

Setup: PSE Drive, 60 draw weight, Easton Axis 400 arrows at 9.0 GPI cut to 28in, Ramcat broadheads.

I never make an arrow adjustments based on speed myself...these modern bows shoot plenty fast enough. I always error on the side of more weight and more FOC personally.

Nobody ever regrets hitting a deer as hard as possible.

Take your setup in and have it clocked with field tips to see how much speed you would gain. your FOC would go from the 13% range into the 11% area.

I wouldn't change unless there is a problem you are trying to resolve. You would probably be better changing arrows to a lighter arrow increasing both speed and FOC at the same time rather than just dropping tip weight.

Remmett did you factor in nock, fletching and possible weight inserts he may have for the 13% and 11% FOC...OP didn't list those.

OP, honestly you are talking about such a minimal loss in speed by keeping the 125, yet if you remove you speed gain will be minimal yet your FOC and momentum will be cut. Not worth it in my opinion....but I'm a guy shooting 125 grain heads with 50 grain inserts added up front...I love a hard hitting arrow.

I calculated based on the standard Nock (9gr) and HIT Insert (16gr) and on the Axis arrows with 3 fletch blazer vanes. at 28" comes out to 420gr with FOC of 13.41% Dropping to 100gr would change to 395gr with FOC of 11.33%

Figured, be curious to know if he's got any inserts too...probably not as he seems worried about speed.

No inserts. Just what the arrow comes with standard. I went ahead and bought more 125s. I just didn't want to give up the KE. Thanks for the input.

Good choice. More FOC is better than just weight or speed alone. I did a combo of the two. Much lighter arrow, more weight upfront (higher FOC), fly like darts and will shoot thru a large elk at 30 yds and not even look back at what it went through.

    Total arrow weight: 400 gr
Chrono at the bow: 305 fps
    FOC: 16%
    KE: 82.5
    Momentum: 0.5413
