    Quick question,

While adjusting my stance and my form, I ended up hitting myself with the bowstring. Has anyone done this or is this something that just happens when you have a bad stance/grip?

    Feels great, doesn't it? :)

It's probably happened to all of us at one time or another because we forgot about form and locked our bow arm. Never lock your bow arm.

If you are shooting a bow with a draw length that's too long for you, it'll happen a lot until you get things adjusted properly.

Many a time. Built in reminder that you used bad form.

Locking bow arm and having to much hand on the grip.

Telltale sign of a archer. I've had many marks on my forearm just like that, the pain definitely helps to remind you that your form needs work.

Oh yeah, hurts like B*itch doesn't it. I've done it a couple time. Once I got it so bad that my entire forearm had about a 1/4 raised welt on it that eventually turned deep purple. Go to the bow shop and make sure you have the proper draw length as that's the most common cause. Then make sure not to rotate your elbow in or lock the elbow.

It's happened to most who have shot a bow at some point. Usually means you are gripping your bow too tight, possibly turning your forearm in towards the string. It's a good reminder if ya do it wrong for sure!

That isn't an injury, rub some dirt on it and get back out there and shoot.

When I first started out I had an old Hoyt Impulse from a pawn shop, the draw length was a tad too long, and I had pretty poor form. Happened to me a few times. An older gentleman told me to open up my stance a little (away from perpendicular) and that really helped a lot.

Had a few of those in the past and when I get sloppy I will get a few more. Happens to a lot of us. It will go away in a couple of days. An old tube sock with the toe cut out well help with that. just put it over you arm and fix your form. :tu:

haha...I remember the first time that I ever shot a bow..my uncles 70# and tore the skin from just under my elbow about 6" down. What you have sir is a mosquito bite.

Haha good to know I'm not the only one it happened to! It had swole up to about a half inch. I couldn't keep practicing after that for fear of hitting it again lol! It definitely is a good reminder to keep good form! I think the reason it happened was because I got a little tired towards the end and neglected to keep that form right. The bow isn't the one to blame as it was measured and set up perfect for me from the shop

Many archers shoot with a stance which is more closed than it should be (as much as 90 degrees to the target) and shoot a bow with too long of a draw length (contributing to closed stance). My stance is about 45 degrees to the target. The bow string never makes contact with my arm and I can shoot from a sitting position as easily as from a standing position.

Thanks for that! That was a really good read! I'll definitely start applying these techniques!
