On our hunting property I get full service with Verizon but, as soon as my friends get within 10 miles of our place they lose all service with at&t. Generally this isn't that big of a deal for us, but now we are trying to figure out a way to communicate in the field in case one of us gets something and needs help or there is an emergency. We don't like walkie talkies cause of the noise. I know Garmin makes a unit that has text but does anyone use a different service or device that works well?
Thought of this but hate impeding on my hearing while hunting, and that darn page is so obnoxious lol
It can allow the phone to hit other carriers towers. have him also check that his plan to see if roaming is covered or additional cost. It can get expensive if not covered.
depending the terrain handhelds might be worthless. I like the idea of a pre-paid Verizon phone. OR just convince them to dump AT&T!
Well, perhaps not for your purpose alone. IF you can use it for anything more than communicating a downed deer then I'd say yes. I will DEFINATELY have that unit before my next mountain hunt.

yep, my midland gxt1050 camo's have vibrate alert, and a whisper mode which allows the talker to whisper but reciever to hear it at whatever volume he has it set on $70-80 on ebay
