What would be the best, reasonably priced, type knives to get for skinning a deer? mine are some from the poultry processing plant I used to work maintenance in and they are very sharp (or were when I first got them) but they are not very versatile

I too worked in a plant and those knifes work great but I also like the fillet knifes that are used for fishing. I have found that they are easy to resharpen and that they can handle both the skinning and the processing.

I'm trying out the gerber vital this year. Along the same lines as the piranta but maybe not as good of quality. We'll see!

Gene Ingram if you want a really great knife for skinning any game .....you will have to wait to get it but it is worth it for the best knife ever.

Forschner/Victorinox boning knives. Probably similar to poultry knives. If you cant shrpen back to razor sharp yourself then take to be sharpened. Remember the honing steel is your best friend

I use a 4wheeler and a golfball to skin with and my trusty old buck knife for field dressing
way less hair and time involved in skinning this way

I wish Bubba Blade would make a smaller model, maybe a 4" blade. I have used some of their bigger models to clean fish..and wow. For deer, I prefer to just use a pocket knife and I like to use a diamond stone to get a nice sharp edge.

I just can't bring myself to buy what amounts to a scalpel. I know they are sharp, but I can get a knife sharp easily enough. I personally use a semi custom BHK Brooke or a case mini trapper. Never needed more than those

Agree. I bought one last fall and have used it on 5 or 6 deer. Love not having to resharpen it. They are crazy sharp though.

Havalon, period. I have all sorts of knives and I can sharpen them just fine but the havalon is so convienent, just pop a blade in and you are good to go. As others have said, scary sharp.

Just my 3" Buck Sheath knife. Simply keep it sharp. I have heavier blade folding Buck knife that I use for any "dirty work" that will dull a knife.

There's a difference between a skinning knife and a boning knife for processing meat. For a decent economical series of knives to peel hide and then process meat the Victorinox/Forschnor line up is hard to beat. I'm a big fan of Gene Ingram and Rick Menefee, Bob Dozier and other custom knives but they aren't exactly inexpensive and not what the OP asked about.

I have a Buck and Old Timer. I haven't had issues field dressing deer with them, but I only use them for that purpose.

Cutco hunting knives, hands down the best I have ever used! Skinned, quartered, and deboned 2 Elk and still sharp! Only downside is you need to send it back to be sharpened, they do it for $7 to cover return shipping. It may last years before you need to send it in.

That would depend on what you consider inexpensive....if you want the best you have to pay for it.
