Got busted on scent tonight. Not cause I didn't use scent blocker though. I'm pretty sure it's cause I was sweating so much before they came around. What's everyone's take on this ? should I respray in stand or maybe try new blocker? I use the dead down wind kit? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
focus on your access to and from your stand, stay downwind of where the deer are and don't walk where the deer will cross. No matter how much you spray on, there will be scent left behind.
Heavy sweater here... Lol Workout a lot in the off season and that aint doin you much good for you now but being in shape helps a great deal. Not to suggest you are not in shape, again I am in shape and a big sweater but it helps! Only other suggestion is releax and take a bit more methodical approach to walking and getting in the stand.
You;re right, you need a complete scent reduction plan to keep from getting busted downwind. Just a piece of clothing won't do it. Worked like a charm last Saturday when I had a big old doe with 2 teens directly downwind from me and I smoked her without even knowing I was right there. Shooting downwind deer is fun.
Also wear as LITTLE as possible in. Early season I wear my very thin baselayer that is camo and sometimes that is it (with harness on) If I'm wearing more, I won't put it on until I get there.....also no hat or cap unless in the time of year you gotta have orange on....I want any heat I create to have an escape on my head where what they say like 90% of your heat is loss or kept.
Do a little research, carbon camo is a gimmick and nothing more. No different than any other clothing. Just like they say that you can re-activate the carbon in the dryer....bull scat. Carbon cannot be reactivated under a temp of 1600 degrees f.
Don't hunt on the wrong wind. I know there's stands and times where deer come from areas your not expecting, but there's really no good way to hunt a deer down wind. You can use all the scent blocking clothing and sprays you want but that doesn't account for all the air you are breathing out that has scent as well. Best bet is walk into a stand with the wind in your face and don't cross where you expect deer to be coming from. A cover scent can help though.
We use an OZ generator at home and on the way to the hunting land in the car. We spray everything from head to toe + Nose jammer on our shoes.
I do as well....but it only runs for no more than 30 minutes at a time. I concur though too much ozone in an enclosed area is not a good idea.
