I've been sidelined since 19 August with a labral tear in my right hip. I had the MRI and a hip specialist said that he didn't see any problem at all continuing to run on it but the pain is too much, so we scheduled a cortisone injection for 9 October. Any ideas as to what to expect? Needles and even pain don't scare me. I'm just curious. I know that I won't be able to do the marathon in December, but I might be able to do the half marathon instead. I was at 13 miles in my training when I had to quit.
i have in my shoulder, shot didn't hurt at all, and did nothing for me. also in my foot multiple times. right up in between the toes 6" deep.. ouch!! feels kinda like a they are injecting hot sauce. hardware on the bones in my foot rubs the nerve and it gets to the point i can barely walk. day 1-5 after the injection it tends to hurt more, then its like magic.. no more pain for months to come. hope it works for you!!

My right knee swelled up from running and arthritis 4 years ago. I could not for the life of me get the swelling to come out and I had a serious six month physical training course to start so I decided to give the cortisone shot a try. Months of pain and trouble sleeping disappeared within 48 hrs. To this day my knee feels better.
get one in my shoulder every 6-10 months or so for a rubbed nerve... shot don't hurt, but the cort starts hurting like hell the next day and lasts for 2-3 days.. then all is good for 5-8 months before the nerve starts acting up again.... BTW... cortisone kills muscle tissue so if ya don't really need it... don't get it... one or two shots won't hurt you but if it's chronic and ya keep needing them, space em out as far apart as possible... (my doctor won't give me one less then 6 months, and hates to give em closer then 7-8 months apart, so I don't go back in till the pain gets so bad I can't use the shoulder anymore without gritting my teeth.)
Haven't myself. My brother did in his shoulder when he thought he had a bad rotator cuff for a couple years. When he went in the doctor said lets try cortisone first. His shoulder has been fine for a couple years without needing more. If swelling is the problem sometimes the shot is enough to give the swelling time to go down.
I've had a few and was a little sore the next day or two in the area but not to the point of being incapacitated.
Yes. Shoulder. Felt like any other needle stick. Had a warm sensation in my arm as my pinched nerve came back to life. Can't remember any pain from the cortisone but not having constant pain in my shoulder was nice while it lasted. I did have a weird side effect. For about three weeks I felt really warm all over. Not funky but just as if I were constantly in 75 degree temps (it was winter). I wish I had that shot during the December deer season. LOL
Yes, had a torn rotator cuff so got one... Helped for a short period of time but I highly recommend physical rehabilitation over a shot! I was always against physical rehab thought it was BS and I work in healthcare but it was the best thing I ever did for my shoulder.
About 20 years ago, I had a pinched nerve in my neck, between C6 and C7, it affected my arm and hands to no end, tingling, numbness, pain. I had 3 shots in the neck. all of the symptoms disappeared until about 6 months ago. It flared back up again. his time, the doc tried my on some medication because he said it wasn't really that bad. Plus I go to see an accupuncturist about every 4 to 6 weeks and it all seems to be doing pretty good, no more pain. A few years ago I have a bulging disc right above the tailbone. There were days I have trouble walking, it affected my leg muscles. I did three shots then and for 4 to 6 months I was pain free, I thought that it was a miracle.....but then it wore off. I know that cortisone is only a bandaid and a coverup for the real problem, so I decided not to do any more, but again, I go and get all amounts of small needles stuck in me in certain spots and it helps tremendously at time, sometimes not, I guess I am learning to live with some pain.
My mom, who will be 82 in November, was just diagnosed with a hip labral tear last month. She got a cortisone shot a couple weeks ago. It almost completely relived her pain. She is also going through physical therapy. Last weekend she won a golf tournament. So there.
i have to help the healing process they are great for taking down inflammation to allow the area to heal and for nerve issues but if it doesnt heal correctly or the nerves are still damaged after the shot wears off you will more than likely need to get another one
Yes I have and will continue to help dealing with pain. I'll be going next week before bow season opens to get one in my foot.
Going Tuesday to get another in my heel. The first time hurt but not as bad as the planter faciitis. I was pain free for several months after the first one. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I had a cortisone shot for plantar fasciitis 4 years ago. Had endured months of PT, expensive orthotics, and the debilitating pain would not go away. I could barely walk in the mornings, and was completely miserable all the time. For those who've never had a foot problem...you have no idea how badly foot pain can impact your lifestyle. I was all set to go under the knife when I decided to get a second opinion. The new podiatrist gave me a cortisone shot on the first office visit. The heel was a little tender on day 2. Zero pain on day 3; and not one twinge since. Literally gave me my life back. Also made me want to punch podiatrist #1 in the face; but I settled for a nasty yelp! review.
