So for the last year I have been diligently working on buying a piece of property I have leased for three years. Over the last year we have gone back and forth over property lines, fencing, etc. it is 160 acres. I wanted 80. That turned to 60, then 40, then 20. All because of his wishes not mine. I settled because I was still getting the best huntable piece with the tillable and best creek bottom. Surveyors, appraisers, welding in fence. Re doing food plots. It's been busy. Then he came over with the contract. We had talked price in the beginning, for 80 acres....... Well the contract was for almost the same price for the 80. He wanted over 60k above the appraised value for just the 20 So I expressed my concern and said let's negotiate. He wouldn't have it. Proclaimed he could get his asking price and wouldn't even re-lease while on the market. I was told to pull my equipment. I was crushed. Been pretty bummed Then I was talking last week to one of my lil boys buddies dads. I knew they had some property but didn't know what. He told me where and what they had. That it hadn't really been hunted in years and to have a look. Well it's a pretty dang nice place. Thick cover a nice reservoir and lots of deer and turkey. Only downfall is it's mostly hedge and cedar. Not a lot of good trees for stands. Anyway through this I realized who his dad was. I've known the guy my entire life and he is friends with my dad. Still I figured this piece of land wasn't gonna be cheap to lease so I readied my account. I called him tonight. Hey man how are ya! Ya Bowhunt? It's all yours son. Just keep the gate closed!!!! Lotta deer in there That big guy..... Always has a plan don't he?
Oh and new piece is 380 acres 100 acres of thick woods. 3 acre lake. Balance is tillable and grass. See me smilin?
Cameras and stands just got loaded in the truck. Gonna be a looonnnggggg night tomorrow. Feeling pretty blessed though.
Aannnddd it only two miles from what I was buying. I'm willing to bet I see some of the same deer. Two miles is nothing to deer in that area.
Yessir I'm a happy man. I had other places to hunt. But that lil place was special to me and I put a lot of sweat and money into it. Feeling very lucky and privileged to fall into an even better place and yet so close to where I want to be. My old spot didn't really hold deer. It was a funnel though that every deer around had to move through. This place HOLDS deer! Only challenge will be suitable stand sight. Time to go buy a couple more Browning Blinds
That's awesome. So nice to hear that there are still people out there that aren't just going for the money.
