I've been doing archery for the last few years but only using straight bows that were home made. so no sights/special stuff.

I've been meaning to get more serious and get a real bow and get into hunting if I can. I'm looking at compounds and recurves (liking compounds more because of adjustability) but don't know how to choose right or left handed.

I shoot right handed but always notch the arrow on the right side (opposite of normal). This is how i'm used to it and like doing it. Is it possible to get a left handed bow just so I can put the arrow on the right side of the bow as I shoot it? Will it cause me any problems?

    thanks.

Your strings will mess you up. Just go hold one at a shop and you will see what im talking about. When you have a compound set up you will be looking through your peep sight. It wont take you long to get used to the arrow nocked on the left side.

I think he means he shoots right handed but his arrow is on the right side of the riser.

Have you checked to see which eye is your dominate eye? If you are right eye dominate shoot right handed. If left eye shoot left handed. Video below tells you how.

you can write and eat lefty, but throw or bat righty, and vice versa.
but your dominate eye should be used to aim with

With the way strings and cables work on compounds, you can't shoot a left handed bow right handed.

Like others said, find your dominant eye and shoot that handed bow :tu:
