Here are the bucks that are on the hitlist this summer, hoping to get one that's a real jaw dropper still.
Pretty interested in your definition of a real jaw dropper is, because mine dropped a few times scrolling through those pics, nice bucks man!
180" isn't that big...the last buck may be pushing it gross when the tape is put to him. Hard to tell in velvet and by pushing it I mean over 160.
I was kind of thinking that last one was a soft 160. Hard to tell but that right side is kind of weak compared to the left.
Yeah, I dunno, I mean who does...that deer is bigger than what the average person is used to seeing and despite some opinions, most people tend to have the false idea that a 180" deer is some unobtainable gargantuan deer so they adjust what they perceive and tend to underestimate by a pretty unreal margin. I don't see that he has a weaker side but he's in velvet and body size plays a big role in guestimating inches too. I know I have a 184" on the wall and two 168" deer all side by side and he looks a lot closer to the 184" than the 168's. Then again the 168's both have quite a lot of scorable junk and one has stupid long beams. Still I thought I was leaving quite a lot of room there in saying that he's over 160, pushing 180...meaning probably up in the 170 range. He's also at a bit of an angle.
Yeah I get what you saying. I've seen a lot of racks that don't look like much but scored over 160 because of a bunch of junk. I have a 160" perfect 10 that has 1 1/8 deductions and in my option it's a lot nicer buck than some non typicals that gross higher. I guess that's why I still feel strongly about net scoring out weighing gross. 180" is a lot of bone for a "typical" whitetail, though. The rack in that picture is angled in front of its body so it looks bigger than it really is. To really feel strongly on what he scores, I'd need a picture that wasn't a grainy picture of a computer screen, though.
Agreed. But I don't need to feel that strongly about it to say I feel comfortable saying that deer is over 160 pushing 180...that's a wide enough margin of error I feel safe. To each their own, just an opinion...I wouldn't argue about it.
