Just curious guys and gals so tomorrow is the bow opener for alot of you and your ready to hit the stand. Up until this point are you still getting deer in velvet on camera or are you seeing any hard antlererd deer. I know it varies from state to state north to south east to west just wondering what everybody is seeing out there.
I am seeing both on my trail cameras the younger deer still have velvet and the more mature deer dont
Still in velvet here. Have heard of a few bucks out of velvet already. Most should be shed here in the next week and a half.
As of last week when I checked cams, some of the younger bucks are hard, the other 2-3 year olds are still in velvet..which is fine with me, I'd love to have another full velvet buck on the wall. However, our season doesn't open until the 12th,
And this is exactly why I wanna travel to one of the states where I'd have that chance at a velvet buck. Thats one of my goals is to one day get a non res tag where I'd have a shot at my first velvet but man we just dont have that luxury in Oklahoma to my knowledge ive never seen a velvet buck come Oct 1
Still in velvet here. I got a picture of one that looked like he was still growing. The ends of his tines are still pretty round compared to the rest of the bucks I've got on cam.
Latest images (some as late as the 28th) show still velvet covered entirely...the next pulls will be when we see some true antlers polished clean.
while I was target shooting Friday, a young buck walked out of the woods 30 yards to my right and was still in velvet. The 8pt I got on camera Friday night was out of velvet. different areas though.
I pulled the card Saturday and didn't have much on it. What was on it, I was happy with. I don't have any complaints on it, if I had to be picky I'd say I prefer the larger format 16:9 (?) but I knew what it had when I bought it. I gave that camera away yesterday as an expensive birthday gift to my brother in law though. Let's put it this way, I like my brother in law and wouldn't have given him a camera that I was disappointed with. He runs several moultrie A-5's and that camera will be a huge step up for him in pic quality. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one based on what short time I operated it. I hated to give it away to be honest but my BIL is a great guy and hard to buy for so...
I was looking into the browning strike force hd, Moultrie m-880 Gen 2 or the primos proof 2 as a cheaper option to the covert red 40. I figured if I was to get new sight, rest and quiver I should go cheaper on the cam and more on the accessories.
In Virginia and NC all I have so far are dinks in velvet. No rubs in the woods yet I could find either.
