Yes I believe that is it pig weed..any advice on spray Covey? This stuff is relentless and fast. I had planted a rye, rape, clover mix (premixed bag don't remeber brand) On one end is Biologic winter bulbs and sugar beets.
No, not really. Mixes like that and trying to control post emergence weeds is tough. Prowl is decent pre-emerge for a mix like that. It's rough to get a selective post herbicide to target a specific weed out of diverse mixes, it's their main drawback. That said, I'm far from an expert, there probably is something but not that I've used or can think of off the top of my head. When I have a problem like that I generally go one of two places, either a county extension agent or my local co-op guys but they generally are pretty poor at food plot stuff unless you get a very well seasoned chemical guy.
Yeah I understand, this got my sweet corn patch this year too. So I would need to find for thst as well.
I've had lots of trouble with it in beans this year, it's rough crap. Cobra does okay in beans, lots of option for corn. Dual Magnum, Frontier, Harness, Callisto, Laudis, Impact, Status, 2,4-D, simazine and, of course, atrazine. 2,4-D I've had good luck with.
Matt, Good luck with the pig weed. I have had some epic battles with it over the years. Only thing I could do that worked was to just turn the plots that had it bad into fall plots and work the ground after the pig weed has started growing. Seemed like when I came back in september and planted they wouldn't sprout back up.
That's a good strategy. Our summer plots I try to just pretty much plant in either broadleaves or grasstype crop and it's easier to find a couple of herbicides with different modes of action so you have a 1-2 punch at it. Milo and Corn for the grass type crops and beans and sunflower, etc... for broadleaf crops. Dual MagnumII+ atrizine for grasstypes and can come back in with 2,4D for post emergence escapes. For broadleaf crops (beans), Dual MagnumII + Authority (Authority plus) pre-emergent and Cobra post for beans.
