Wanted some opinions. Should I leave this guy alone or just remove him from the herd? He looks like a 2.5 year old or maybe even 3. So this makes me think he should have a little more than what he is sporting. Let me know what you think.

He looks 2ish to me. His neck meets midline in his chest not going to the bottom. Have you seen his rear end? His face looks like a doe. It could be a she.
Or could be sick. Mercy Kill?

You can not manage genes without a fence.

Up to you, I don't kill anything before 5 just because you never can tell what will happen. Personally I don't think that deer is even 3 so I think judging him at this point is completely useless.

Just don't take it as your first buck. Same team here. Unless it is a doe then Fitz might let you count the 50pts plus the inches of antler.:tu:

Thanks guys. I was on the fence but now he gets a pass. Got plenty big does to fill the freezer so meat is not issue. :tu:

I wouldn't cull, but I'd fill your feeder, that little guy is starving.

HAHA Definitely would not have been the first buck. I did put out a dripper today to hopefully start pulling something in a little more mature.

Agreed. That deer is looking poor. Could it be his small rack is somehow related to nutrition? Dont know how it is around that part of the country but its been a good year here...just about every thing from hummingbirds on up is fat and slick right now. I'd pass on him and if he makes it through the winter he may look better later on.

Let him go, he is young and no telling what he can become. Always nice to have some weak deer to feed any predators in the area also.

Yeah I'd let him walk, way to hard to tell at this age, for me anyways.

Yeah he is having some issues. Everything else is fat and happy. Host pedicles look like he might have had a bigger rack in the past after looking harder. Just have to keep an eye on him.

But if he is sick and has communicable disease than it might be better to cull him now before the rest of the herd looks that way.
IDK, just a thought. Talk to your warden and see what he has to say.
