The goal is to create a more inclusive campus, the university says. The pronouns will help people feel more welcome and comfortable at the school.
“We should not assume someone’s gender by their appearance, nor by what is listed on a roster or in student information systems,” Donna Braquet, the Director of the University of Tennessee’s Pride Center, told WATE. “Transgender people and people who do not identify within the gender binary may use a different name than their legal name and pronouns of their gender identity, rather than the pronouns of the sex they were assigned at birth.”
On the university’s website, Braquet writes:

“These may sound a little funny at first, but only because they are new. The she and he pronouns would sound strange too if we had been taught ze when growing up.”

If you are a he and don't want to be called a he, or a she and don't want to be called a she

You better be willing to accept being called (IT, Freak, Whackjob, nutball) or any other terms I can think of.

 

Dictionary even added Mx. this year instead of Mr., Mrs. or Ms.

 

Sometimes I think I was born a couple hundred years too damn late.

 

I think people need to stop being so damn sensitive about stuff and call it for it is.

 

Its just some crazy, liberal, gay professor. It's not like its a university standard.

Professors? Not really...or at least not that ones I had. I'm sure the percentage goes up if you get a liberal arts degree.

 

It'd be interesting to have a list of them from across the country and their political affiliation, I bet a lot of people would learn a great many things.

I have not. If I write a letter or e-mail and don't know the gender I say, "Dear Sirs"

 

Gender neutral. that would be when I say. Hey YOU. when I don't know a person's name.

 

This pretty much sums it up. I agree with the person who said they wish they were born 100 years ago.
