I've never had an issue with my BH not flying the same as my field tips until I shot some at 60 yards. I've always been focusing on hog hunting at 20-30yd so they've flown good at those ranges. Now at 60 I'm 6'' low and to the left. I started bare shaft tuning also but struggling. My Viper Tricks fly better than the G5's but not always great. questions: Should I be able to shoot BH as good at 60yd as I do my field tips even? Bare shaft tuning: at 20yd I can get the arrow to hit the mark but it's angled to the right. Very frustrating and the two best archery shops in South Florida just closed their doors and I've got a NM Elk and Mule deer tags I'm going to fill in 3 weeks.
I'm anything but an expert on bow tuning but it seems like 6" low at 60yrds moving out from 30 would be kind of normal. It doesn't take much adjustment to drastically change things out at 60 yards.

It may be more inches at 60yd but it's like 4-5'' at 35yds. Off enough that I'd never take a shot at an animal. Kilboars Hunt Club
Are you field points also 100gr? I have done a lot of longer range shooting.. If that HHA is sighted in properly you should be good, but you might need to fine tune the sight just a tad. .. You probably need to check your rest. Of your arrows are angled from close range and low and left at 60 it sounds like your rest isn't set quite right.
Andrew - so many little things can add up to be causing this...including your own grip and form. In my experience, once you know you have the same grip & form shot to shot (which you must if each of these arrows are doing the same thing)...then it's on to the bow itself. I was always one for paper tuning before going to broadheads. My very general observation based on my own past experience...if you are hitting low and left at 60 yards with BH's, my guess is your paper would be tearing slightly nock high and right. To correct this would be minor movements to lower your nocking point on string + bring your rest in to the right slightly. (you could also move the rest up slightly instead of lowering nock point depending on it's current position to center shot). I am no bow pro - these are just things that worked for me years ago when I spent way too much time paper tuning. I shot fixed blades for years out to 40 yds right on with field points. But as I took to elk hunting, and began shooting 60-70+ more often, I noticed my BH's were no longer grouping exactly as tightly as field points. I was never really able to get them to where I was 100% ok and confident with it (I believe a lot has to do with faster arrow speeds, lighter arrows, less fletching...with new bows). Many can still shoot 300 fps and group fixed blades at 60 yards, I haven't been so lucky. I've shot expandables now for 4 years with great success and even quicker recovery on animals, multiple elk/deer/turkey and have had no need to even track them...and my confidence is higher than ever. Just like you, I'm typically busting through these same issues with just a couple weeks to go (I was just thinking last night I may retune everything just to make sure) Good luck with the bow and elk/muley hunt! Bare shaft tail right can also be slightly overspined, I just went through this. What spine are you shooting?? I could get perfect tears with fletched , but BS was horrible and tail right @ 20yd. No amount of rest movement would correct it. I was slightly overspined and upped my FP and BH's from 100gr to 125gr. One very slight rest adjustment and a little re-sighting for the difference in weight and it brought everything together out to 60...
I guess I didn't understand the problem then, I understood you to say that it shot okay out to 30 but was 6" low at 60. If it had previously been fine and all at once started shooting 4-5" off at 35 yards then you may have a timing issure from string stretch or wear or something. Something pretty drastic happened for it to just begin shooting that low at that short range.
Yes, field tips also 100gr but the G5 BH are new to me. Usually shoot Slick Tricks or Muzzys. I shoot through a whisker biscuit and the other thing I changed was to going to straight 3'' fletchings and I think that my be an issue as well. The arrows don't spin at all.
Thanks Matt, I do question my consistency but for the most part I'm good. I've got a few more things to try but what BH do you use for Elk?
I know you were asking Matt but I am using Magnus Black Hornets for elk. Fly great, super sharp..... confident they will get the job done.
I;ve been playing with the poundage with that same thought. I shot #70 for years and now I'm down to #62 because my shoulders can handle more. I'm shooting Easton FMJ's with 75gr brass insert and a Luminok bringing the weight to 538gr so it may be overspined. I'll try a 125gr two blade BH. Thanks
They look nice. Do they make noise when they fly? You can hear these G5's going through the air. Never had another BH do that and to the point where I'm thinking it may be slowing the arrow down.
