Well its that time of the year...I am getting the bug...I was thinking of going to start a couple mock scrapes this weekend...any tips on what you guys do that works for you?

In the past I've tried making some with a licking branch and some code blue preorbital gland and saliva scent, and then just raking the leaves away with my boot.

I've also in the past went out to an old annual scrape...you know the ones that every deer hits like the size of the hood of a car and scooped some dirt out and went and poured it into a new one.

I've had mediocre success with getting these scrapes going.

This year I was going to try some drippers and some tinks scrape mate.

    What do you do?

I did mine last weekend. I used a metal rake and sprayed it with tinks power scrape then used the tinks drippers [IMG][IMG]

Tinks power scrape can be used for the branch also?

I use tinks power scrape on ground (sometimes nothing on ground) and buck fever synthetics on the licking branch.

Thanks for the pics...I like that you have the drippers up above the licking branches...seems like a smart thing to do.

all of my scent drippers have had the tie rope replaced with a stiff wire. i put a hook bend in it and can use a long stick to use it to hang it on a branch well obove the licking branch.
i've had deer knock off the dripper when hung to low and it will kill the scrape

I've had good success over the years starting mock scrapes in my area. For years, I used Bob Kirschner's SilverTop and they would tear it up.

One year I read an article and it said just take a leak in it so I was trying this behind my house by a camera i put out. Now that's what I do. The first time I did it, I had 6 different bucks hit it that night.
Quick tip: Make sure you don't start the camera until after you've 'freshened it up'. : )

I to have had some luck with mock scrapes mostly using tinks and young buck scent the tinks power scrape really works and you will definitely get bucks attention if their there good luck getting them going. I am gonna start my scrapes late September maybe second to last week.

I put mine out 3 weeks ago. It seems costly to keep them going but I hope it's worth it. Right now I don't have any shooter bucks on the property. The little bucks seem to like one of the scrapes but don't touch the other 4. Maybe the action will pick up as the season moves on.

I'm trying the power scrape now. IMO the Tinks droppers run thru scent entirely too fast. Mine are lucky to make it 5 days right now

Didn't have the best of luck with Tinks Power Scrape last year. Will give it another shot this year... Will def be using my own pee based on the "reviews" I've read.

If you put more liquid in the tinks it is supposed to drip slower. I will be refilling mine this weekend and checking the cameras. Hopefully after this one the bucks take over the scrapes as we have a lot of bucks running around

I always fill it to the max fill line, are you saying you should fill it past that?

The wildlife research one is a better product I think. It lasts about 3x longer at least on the same amount of liquid

The wildlife research one is definitely better my bro in law has that one...I bought the tinks because it came in a pack for a deal with the power scrape...I've heard if you fill the tinks bottle then close the lid and tip over to create a suction then remove the cap on the dripper and they drip much slower. I guess I'll find out...really only need it to get things going then I'm hoping the local bucks will take it over.

The bottle just says it will drop faster with less liquid in it, I take that to mean more liquid drips slower but I still fill up to the max fill line

That's what do and it will drip about 4-5 days. I have two of them and one Wildlife Research. You couldn't give me ten of the Tinks ones for one of the others. The price of the Tinks one is nice. I would be willing to bet if you put a hose on it with a loop in the hose, they would be just as good as the other ones.

That's a pretty good idea...I'll have to see if I can find some old hose and make some traps or loops to slow the drip down.
