So we have a steep grade next to one of our newer cabins that we've had erosion problems with. So this spring it was hydro-seeded. The company that came out to do the seeding was telling me about the seed blend. It's the same product that is used for all the highway ditches and medians in the State. Well, it came up super strong and will work great for our erosion issue. Here's the funny part.... No wonder there are so many dead deer on the road
Just be glad they didn't use wild parsnip for erosion like they did down south. Definitely one the top 10 dumb @$$ things they have done. I would trade for that clover in a second.
They planted that along a section of highway on the way to my cabin. Was ready to put a pop up blind on the shoulder because I would see more deer in the ditch on the way home than I would see in the woods from my stand.
That must be the same stuff they have planted between Duluth and Two Harbors. There's always a ton of deer in on the right of way through that section of highway.
Awesome! The parsnip definitely wasn't smart.... Have you guys heard of the butterfly highway. They plan to plant milkweed in the ditches and median from the twin cities to Texas to help the monarch population.
They dont do much mowing of the medians here in Wisconsin... the state is trying to save money by not having to mow areas that they dont think are really necessary. But I would hope the DNR would be smarter then that to not plant clover.
Remember a number of years ago, at the urging of environmentalists, the state decided to quit mowing the ditches. Guess it sounded good until the deer hits started climbing because there was no warning. thankfully today they are cutting them way back again. As for a clover mix in the ditches, perhaps the deer will stop of a snack instead of just bolting into the path of traffic.
Duluth has more deer inside the city limits than they know what to do with. Depending on the time of year deer up the north shore will actually migrate to the big lake which coincidentally has a state highway running along it.
