I am finally taking time to learn this property I've had permission to hunt just never did because of how big it is. I guess it intimidates me a little.

Well this year I've got cameras running and am getting some decent pictures, but this property flat out hates me!!!!

Two years ago I drove my truck into a new sink hole that just randomly appeared. That was scary. Last year we buried my friends truck in the crp field and I just finally got out of the mud myself. Luckily I have a family friend that lives just down the road and comes to my rescue whenever needed.

The mud holes are tough to see because of the crp grass and it makes you sink in quick! I am GOING to kill a nice buck there this year!

Anyone else have a place like this? Haha

it's bound to payoff!! how many acres? My property is so thick after all the work I've done I wouldn't even think of bringing a quad on it!

I know exactly how ya feel. How big is the lot?

I hunt big woods and swamps. The night I killed an 8 point I was over a mile back in the swamp. It felt like it took FOREVER and some to drag it just to the corner of a field. Well I decided (since I was exhausted) the best thing to do was grab the truck and drive around the edge of the field to the buck.....bad idea. Come to find out, it had rained a straight 3 days prior while I was out of town. The ground wasn't wet so I thought it would be an easy, in out. I ended up sinking the truck to the floor boards. It took 5 hours, 4 men, 2 trucks and a separate wench to a tree, to get that truck out.

I didn't even want to look at the buck after that.

It's roughly 620 acres give or take. I was half mile back. Last time I got stuck I was a mile back.

I hesitate to scout some of the places I want to check out.... but it's because they're a 15-40 miles away via ATV.

..... So, I'm kind of laughing at you. 1/2 mile. Sheesh...

620 acres wouldn't be bad. I'm trying to figure out 10,000. I've been at it for about 20 yrs. finally getting close now.

Its not the size of the property thats overwhelming but the amount of overgrown CRP fields. Very hard to walk through and driving vehicles back there has been rough haha.

Hey now I had to drive 20 miles to get to this property. I feel real bad that you have to drive so far on your atv in the mountains. Must be rough.....

Dude I am jealous I have 50 acres total in 3 spots across 3 states. Most of mine are open pastures with a mix of hardwoods and pines. We do have sink holes in Virginia but if I hit one of those you won't here from me again. :tu: Good luck and hopefully things will work out for you. Keep us posted.

I have gotten very lucky! I have around 5 farms I hunt that equal close to 1500 acres of private. All within 20 minutes of my house! and the sink hole was 5 foot deep. Luckily it wasnt real big across otherwise the whole truck would have gone in. My bumper stopped my fall haha.

It is pretty rough. There's washouts and rock ledges. Trails made of softball sized rocks stacked on each other. Cows, deer, rabbits, squirrels and grouse on the trails.. Dust. My thumb gets sore. Hahahaha!

But it would be a looong walk back if the vehicle poops out.

The last elk we got was eight miles from the truck and two and a half miles from the atv. I don't want to do more hiking than I have to. :)

My atv died 14 miles from home the other day. Gas line cracked. Thankfully I was with two other atvs.

But there's a reason why I carry a satellite phone, tools, fire stuff, blankets, water... Etc...

You might want to buy a hi-lift jack, tire chains and maybe even a winch.

I hate getting stuck. But I hate staying home even more.

Tire chains might have helped. A winch would have been worthless. No trees within 200 yards that were in the direction I needed pulled out. I just called a friend with a F250 super duty!

A winch can be useless out here too. We have one on the jeep and the atv but not on the trucks. I do have the hi-lift set up to be a winch if needed.

I'll sell you my f250. Heh!
