Ever noticed on the big hunting shows that a large amount of the hunters dip snuff? I see them with all their high dollar scent free suits and sprays, to ruin it with dipping and no face cover. Seems like a waste to me, whole lot of bacteria in your mouth and breath. Maybe I'll start dipping in the stand.

I do all the time. Pretty sure every deer I've shot I've had a dip in.

I hear people all the time complaining about others smoking and chewing while hunting thinking the scent is going to somehow bother a deer. It's a non-issue, deer are used to smelling smoke and plant matter, they are alarmed by scents they associate with predators, human scent falling into that category...smoke and tobacco juice isn't. Kind of reminds me of this scene from the movie Jeremiah Johnson:

Jeremiah Johnson: [Jeremiah and Bear Claw hunt elk] Wind's right, but he'll just run soon as we step out of these trees.

Bear Claw Chris Lapp: Trick to it. Walk out on this side of your horse.

Jeremiah Johnson: What if he sees our feet?

Bear Claw Chris Lapp: Elk don't know how many feet a horse has!

I dip snuff, i am not proud of it but if i do not have a dip of snuff in my mouth while hunting I cant sit still. its sad but true. I not sure if it bothers them or not. Everybody has had a deer smell them and spook before so when that happens to me I am not sure if they smell me or the chew ? How would someone know what they smelled is the question ?

I am grateful dipping is one habit I never picked up. I had an relative die horribly from mouth/throat cancer when I was younger and it left an impression. My mother also died of lung cancer when I was 15 so smoking is also something I have avoided thankfully.

But I have friends that both smoke and dip on stand and they always kill deer. Not mature trophy class deer but I am not sure they could kill those even if they didn't LOL.

Dirty, nasty habit. Hunting or not, why do it? Id be more worried about oral cancer and the damage to teeth than if a deer could smell it.

Since I have had deer walk by while I had the grill running making lunch in my rifle stand, or while taking a piss, I am not sure dipping is going to spook them.

Nearly everyone here is an adult, has spoken to a doctor in the last 20 years and does not live under a rock. Please refrain from sharing your quips with other peoples habbits. Look in the mirror before casting stones. Bet there is plenty of "disgusting" things you do or have done

I picked my nose once and flicked a huge booger from my stand. I hope that buck that spooked last year wasn't because he smelled the booger out in front of me.

Really people, we all have bad habits. He just asked a simple question.
I don't use that stuff or smoke so I cant speak for myself but I do know others who do and have no problem getting deer.
