So I bought a new truck on Thursday. Do you guys who have labs or hunting dogs that you travel with put them in a travel kennel in the bed of the truck if your going over an hour away to hunt? Usually I have just thrown mine in the back seat of the truck. But the wife would like to keep this one dog hair free.. as much as possible. I have a dog kennel, and kennel cover that I bought.. But I guess I have a couple questions.. 1. Do you always use the kennel cover? It was about 90 degrees here the other day and I tossed him in the kennel in the back and we went for a ride, but didn't use the cover. 2. What about weather ? Rain, Sleet and Snow ? Do you still put him in the back ? How about with the heat ? Thanks guys really appreciate it. Mike
I have a lint roller I keep in the back seat to clean up after my pup. This winter he will be riding in his kennel in the back of the truck. I have a topper though so I'm not going to worry about the kennel cover.
Depends on the weather. We made a insulated dog box for real cold days. The dog never rides in the cab. The hair will be the least of your concerns after a dog has been in the muck and water. The stench will run you out other there not to mention the mud and muck all over the place.
Keep them dry with a cover and they will stay warm. If the weather is dry you won't need the cover. We've always had a topper so it didn't matter.
keep him in the cab and just get a truck hammock for the back seat. I take my shepherd in the field all the time and have never noticed any bad smells or odors as long as I take the time to dry him.
Bed of the truck when we're hunting local and back seat of the truck when hunting snows in SD. After all, retrieving hundreds of snows a spring deserves the inside!
Just do what my dad did when he had to transport a cat with his suburban and didn't want hair in the truck. Get a cage, put the cat in the cage, strap the cage to the top of the luggage rack. Problem solved I still laugh hysterically when I picture that cat after the hour drive!
