Just curious when everyone changes out their batteries on their cams. Do you wait until they die? Until they get down to a certain percentage? At the end of the season? I changed a set out today on my G42 that was reading about 25%. I was assuming that the low batteries were affecting the performance of the camera since I had about 1/3 the pictures compared to my last pull. It very well could have been there just wasn't anything in front of the camera but I changed them out anyway.
Some cams eat batterys,I would run a test and see how each cam will run on a set of your fav batterys. I have 1 g42 and it won't last a month on a set of alkaline rayovacs. My coverts will run 4-5 months on the same set. Seems like every cam has its own personality some times. I write notes on cams that are acting up. Like battery change dates, pos ect.
I generally let them die and get by okay but I usually run them once a week so I rarely lose much time.
Yea it seems like my G42 goes through them pretty quick. Think it was about 5000 pics set at 10 MP that got me down to the 25%. Yea I usually let them sit for at least 3 weeks. Preferably a month. It's always a tough call. I had two cams hovering at about the same percentage. The one I changed the batteries on had nothing but does, wolves, and bears. Then of course the one I left the old batteries in had this guy on it.
Why did I find the question funny,.. I change em when they die Ill go 6+ months without having to change them most of the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If I were doing sits that were that long, I'd probably change them out if I caught them down below 30% and try to cycle the batteries through other stuff to finish them off.
My G42s are running on the same sets I put in in March. Same with my G30's. I usually wait until I see 10-15%, unless I'm running video, then I might swap them earlier.
In the winter time I change them out at 30 - 40%. I let the kiddos use these batteries for all their gadgets in the house...
I normally wait until my cameras are showing 1 bar left on the power meter. I normally get 15,000-20,000 pics on a set of batteries.
How is that possible? I'd have 5000 -10000 pics a week if I had my cams set to a burst of 9 pics per trigger. The battery wouldn't make it more then a couple weeks.
Have any of you that check your cams once a week have big bucks stop appearing? I've started to have this feeling? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know a lot of guys take checking cams seriously... But after listening to the latest Wired to Hunt podcast I don't think it matters THAT much. Maybe the buck you got pics of moved/is staying near a different food source right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You have your cams set at the highest megapixel setting? Or doesn't that seem to make much difference?
Welcome to the BIG woods Yes, I've never turned down the resolution on any of my cameras. If storage space for pics is cheap.
My Reconyx is at roughly 8k pictures with 85% battery left, last year it took roughly 13k between May and November and still was over half life. My primos 46 is at 75% (that's where is started due to Nimh batteries) been out since February but only at 2-4k pics both running 5 or 4 shot burst Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I try to catch mine before they die but don't always. If I change one camera though I just change them all regardless of what they are showing. Probably not very cost effective but don't haveta worry about changing one on one day and then a week later changing another and so on. One dies they all get fresh batteries.
I don't run any of my cams on shot bursts, I set them to take one pic with a 20 second delay at max resolution. I still get over 1000 pics a week on most cameras and some over 3000. We have so many turkeys and coons and deer eating at the feeders for several minutes that I'd never be able to buy large enough GB cards to hold a weeks worth of pics otherwise, let alone a month.
