Better then youth only. We are still at hunters choice. I miss the good old days of intensive harvest.

I don't want intensive harvest but I really don't understand why 213 isn't a managed area... It would be nice to be able to shoot a doe early season then hunt bucks

Two of them are right near me. I wish I could shoot two deer (one antlerless for sure) on my farm each year. I'm 295.

I'm really not impressed with the deer management in Mn. I understand it's a hard job and that everyone wants something different but I remain un impressed

I don't understand why they make archery bucks only. Let bowhunters shoot a buck or a doe but still have the one deer limit. The main driver of numbers is the firearms season IMO.

Yes. I forget there is more to this state than our little corner in the NE. I also forget how vastly deer hunting and management varies from one corner to the next. I need to get out more .

Wanna come shoot a doe in 213? I'll buy your license if it doesn't have antlers! Haha

If the hunters took care of the management themselves there would be better herd structure and more mature bucks. This is not a DNR problem (they aren't helping either though) but a personal problem. If you look in areas where people have been trying to let bucks get age on them there are plenty of big bucks, but it takes sacrifice and not the lame excuse if I don't shoot that buck my neighbor will.

I completely agree with you, I would just like to be able to shoot does and manage our herd better. A lot of guys around here don't shoot does because we only get one deer and by the end of the season they get too lazy to shoot a doe. It takes action on all fronts and while personally we may not be doing everything we can, we are trying. It seems the DNR is actively working against us. MN shot 7:3 bucks to does last year, which seriously harms the mature buck

The two years our zone was intensive harvest my dad and I shot 9 deer the first year and 10 the next. Our family of five ate every single piece of meat off of those deer as possible. I do agree that intensive harvest may have been a little much. Archery hunters font usually fill all their tags but gun hunters almost always do and when a bus of 10-15 guys drives around shooting deer that's a lot of dead deer. I would like to be in a management area with two tags. I've worked around this by getting involved in the Mankato city hunt. It allows me to shoot up to 5 deer a year still. There are several cities in the state that have hunts like this.

    Here's a list:
    http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/recreation/hunting/deer/2015-sh-archery.pdf

I think if the numbers are so low the a large majority of the state is lottery and even residents have to apply for a tag that nonresident hunting should be shut down until the herd is big enough for residents to hunt. Then let the non residents come back.

Exactly how it is here. I held off until December 20th when I finally shot my doe last year. Wish landowners licenses worked differently.

Shut down non resident hunting for a year or two and many wouldn't come back. I don't see the DNR ever doing that.
