The other day I was thinking: Every hunters dream is to shoot a booner, but how many really have? Boone and Crockett is 170, but on a separate note, how many of you guys have shot over the magic 200" mark? How many people have encountered or missed a B&C? Pictures, Stories?
Forgive me for not Googling this first but isn't a minimum score for a Buck far less than 200"? I was thinking it was 160 award and 170" all time typical and 185" award and 195 All time non-typical? Anyway, nope...it's been a long chased after dream for me to down a legit Booner. After looking at the B&C minimums, those numbers are correct, I guess I do have two bucks that beat the award minimum but the all time slots are the ones I always kind of considered "THE legit Booner".
I think he's asking 2 different questions...1. Who has shot a booner? 2. Who has shot a buck over 200"?
i have not yet killed a booner but........i have had EASY shots at at least 11-12. 2 non typ's that i would guess in the 220-230 range, a 197 set of sheds (no spread). i missed a 17 yard shot at the Peterson (clay county MN) 196ish buck with a bow a couple nights before he was killed by gun,and several other 170+ typicals. never had money when young and would shoot any arrows/heads that were given to me. was a horrible shot back when. used to have LOTS of huge bucks around when CRP dominated the landscape, now a 140 is big here.
Native grasses. Can be very thick and very tall. http://www.fsa.usda.gov/programs-an...n-programs/conservation-reserve-program/index
CRP= Conservation Reserve Program, it's land set aside due to highly erodible status (usually) and planted to grass. Nowdays, as Buckey indicated, it's native warm season grass blends and generally now days they are put in with more respect given to forbes and legumes which is far better for wildlife than the heavy monograss stands they promoted in the early onset of adopting NWSG over fescue.
yes. due to having HORRIBLY mismatch equeptment, i never was a good shot and that was a huge confidence non-builder. actually, its a few more than i said earlier. i've wounded a couple that were easy B&C. the last big buck i missed was about 10 years ago. i had fallen through the ice while trying to cross a river and my muzzeloader went under. it was -5 out and i spent an hour on stand chipping ice off of it. the buck i had been after for 3 years finally gave me a chip shot at about 50-60 yards. the gun went off but did'nt sound right. i assume i had ice in the barrel. he did not even spook and watched me load up another round but my fingers were SO FROZEN, i could not get a primer in the breech. . i found him dead in the spring from unknown causes. he grossed 196 and netted 191+ as a perfect 6x6.
I got 2 on camera last season and saw 1 while driving to work last August. The biggest deer I've seen from the stand was a 135-140" that I whiffed on at 17 yards.
Closest I ever cam was a 160" 10 pt in SD in 2006. I shanked the shot (longbow limb hit the front rail on the stand I was in). It was killed later and my friend relayed the score is why I know what it scored. I have never even seen one close to that size since.
Nope..hoping to get one this year though lol largest buck I seen while hunting was last year pushing 145inches at 20 yards while already tagged out in Kansas the day before hunting for my doe tag.... yea that's how I felt after haha
