I just got the 4K upgrade license for my PXW-X70, so I took it out for a test drive. I'm looking forward to being even more flexible in post production now. I was actually pretty impressed with how well Premier Pro CC and my laptop was able to ingest the 4K footage. Really it wasn't much different than when I was working in 1080. It took a little longer to export, but the editing process was pretty smooth.

Every time I see you post something from this camera I have a hard time not just going and getting one. Was the deer footage zoomed in all the way in with the clear image(or whatever they call it)?

Yes. Almost all the footage was on the long end of the clear image zoom. Those 5 does were probably about 200 to 250 yards away(just a guestament). It was damn hot out too, and you can really see the heat waves in that footage, but they were still pretty darn clear in my opinion. In 4K, the clear image zoom extends to about 18X instead of 24X, but it's doing it with 4X the pixels so you crop in even further and still maintain a sharp, quality image.

I'm hoping to play with cropping the footage from 4K and putting into a 1080 timeline and see how well that works. Just have to figure out how to do it first.

Sony has an awesome thing going with the clear image and the 4k. I just got a G20 but I'll probably go Sony in the future

It's crazy, now that I've got a few cameras that shoot 4k and a new iMac with the 5k display, 1080p footage is starting to look blurry to me lol.

There's no doubt you get spoiled. I have a 55" 4K TV and my laptop has a 4K screen. I get used to watching everything being upscaled to 4K on the TV and when I go somewhere else and watch TV I instantly notice the difference. The other night I was at my In-Laws. They have a 65" HD projection TV and the image was pretty much unbearable...... :hater:

Yeah your processor is a lot faster than mine, I haven't updated my editing software because I don't think my computer can even handle the new Hd stuff

One of the cool features of this camera, one that I haven't had a chance to explore, is the ability to have a proxy recording in a much smaller file size. You can use the proxy file in your editing software, then once you have all the edits done, replace the proxy files with the high quality file and render it. This would really help on a machine with a lot less horses under the hood.

Looks good. I am not nearly as impressed as I think I should be. Most likely because the way in which YouTube re-encodes everything. Love to have access to a native file sample!

Yes, Youtube doesn't do video any favors for sure. It looks pretty darn good on my 55" curved 4K Samsung TV right out of the camera.
