Any good areas in Ohio that have good public land or private land that wouldn't be leases by an outfitter. Went on a hunt in zanesville last year but alot of local land was already leased

AEP has a ton of public land to hunt all over Ohio. Google AEP Ohio hunting and you should be able to find some maps of areas.

I thank you as well. After 15 years here in North Carolina I finally get to get away from the Military and head back to the midwest. I hope to be up in the North East Columbus to Newark area and want to hunt until im able to buy some land.

My dad owns 60 acres in southern Ohio near Crown city, lots of public land in that area. Every once and a while I will go and see what's going on in the public land and am amazed with the little hunting pressure some of it gets. We are down there during bow season, usually during the rut. It's tuff hunting though lots of hills and wind/thermals always changing direction. Good luck.

Got my wife moved up to New Albany I should be up in the next few months. I cant drive through town without stopping and letting the deer cross the crosswalk. Its ridiculous.

+1...we usually head up to Ohio every year for a week during the rut. Whenever hunting public Zaleski is usually where we end up.

Been hunting Licking Co. area for several years. Most the private is leased unfortunately and very tough to get permission. Public can be good if you can put in the time, put some boots on ground, and do your research. Can be daunting but with a lot of work can have success! www.soundbarrierhunting.com

Only go to zaleski for gun week every year with a group so not sure about rut. But gun week there is a lot of pressure for sure. But you just gotta be willing to go where others won't. That's what we do and regularly have the most deer out of anyone else there. Just gotta hike further in.

Usually we see a good bit of hunters up there but as mentioned by others depends on your area. You just have to be willing to get out earlier than the other hunters and put your boots down. Last year topo showed over a mile one way to where I was hunting not including ridges, etc. Equip your bags with necessary tools to pack out and plan on sitting for a while usually is the best bet from my experience. On the other hand, ive seen guys up there kill good deer hunting 75 yards off of the road. Just a habit that I like to go as far in as possible to get the more isolated areas.
