Do they operate differently than other states? Most states you have to be an actual landowner or claimed as a dependent by to utilize them legally?
Not this year, but then again I only applied for another point. Next year I am entering the IA lottery for the first time. Should have 3 or 4 points.
I drew this year. Will be in zone 9. Already have some nice deer on camera but no shooters (160 +) yet.
Yeah that was something we were going to look into. It'll be the first year I get to go there. I've heard of people buying land owner tags from the land owner or lease owners giving their leaser the land owner tags. They will be archery tags if it works out.
I did a little research. It doesn't look like I'll able to use their landowner tag as a non-resident. I wouldn't be able to shoot a buck unless I buy a antlerless tag over the counter and party hunt the shotgun seasons.. (Puke)
It really surprises me that Iowa allows party hunting. As tight as they are with their tags, I just didn't expect that.
Yeah I think the only time you can party hunt is during gun season. I'm not interested in party hunting or gun hunting.
Ya only party hunting allowed is during shotgun seasons. You must have a hunting license and a tag for that season in your name to participate in party hunting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
i was thinking about getting a bow tag for iowa. 1 tags very expensive 2 your chance of getting drawn is impossible. now i realize iowas not the only state thats got big bucks. ive heard that most guys i know rather go to missouri because tags are off the counter and it cost around 120$ or more. but its worth going down to missouri from some folks that i know.
Missouri has some really great bucks but those guys that would rather hunt there than Iowa are full of ****
Chances of drawing are actually pretty good. Most go every other year except for zone 5. Usually every three years for there. Missouri is good as is Kansas and Ohio. Heck all the Midwest really. My buddy would rather hunt Kansas than Iowa and he was on a awesome farm in Iowa.
up for the draw next year. I am going to hunt down around Unionville. I think that is the name of the town?
I don't think anyone would rather hunt Missouri than Iowa, but anyone can hunt Missouri every year and it's cheap. Non-resident is $225 for an antlered buck tag, over the counter. $25 for a Doe. As a Missouri resident and landowner, it's really frustrating that we are so much cheaper and easier for non-residents to hunt. North of the Missouri river to the Iowa line could easily be as good or better than Iowa if it was managed for trophy deer instead of hunter participation. Because its cheap and guaranteed, we have tons of out of state people leasing property these days.
