My buddies and I are looking at going on a tour or two for his birthday. Im looking for some suggestions on what breweries would be good to go to. We are on border of Wisconsin near Rockford. We are willing to travel a couple hours if the area is worth it to stay and drink/eat for awhile. Any suggestions?
plenty of breweries in Chicago Half Acre, Goose Island, Finchs, Breakroom, etc Plus plenty of awesome craft beer bars to eat and drink at... New Glarus is also a few hours north of y'all for a great Wisconsin brewery.
Miller would be the biggest and closest to you or go to St. Louis and tour Bud. The New Glarus brewery is small but does have some good beer.
We thought about going into Chicago just wasn't sure what places to go. I've had some beer from New Glarus and its great it being 45 minutes from us. I think their tours are filled up pretty far in advance. Miller would be cool and I know here are some other places up that way we could check out the same day and it might be a little easier than Chicago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just did the Sprechers brewery tour for the 5th time last weekend. Never disappoints, 4 sample beers and unlimited soda. If you are in the area you can also do the Lakefront Brewery tour, tour guides there are very funny. (Both in Milwaukee area).
La Crosse Brewery is pretty cool. It has the world's largest 6 pack. Plenty of other attractions up there too. Great downtown area with plenty of restaurants and bars.
New Glarus is a cool tour... Capital Brewery in Middleton (West side of Madison) might do tours. Lake Louie Brewery in Arena has some awesome beers too...they might do tours.
Leinenkugel would be fun and then lakefront is like a 10 minute drive from there. We could do both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Leinenkugel brewery tour is in Chippewa Falls which is 4 hours north of Milwaukee. Miller owns Leinenkugels so maybe they will give you a sample on the Miller tour
Weird Google has told me wrong lol when I type it in, it made it seem like it was in Milwaukee. Oh well we will figure something out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Go to New Glarus. It easily the best brewery within your area. Don't go to freaking Miller or Budweiser.
You could keep going north a little bit after New Glarus and hit the Madison breweries. Capitol Brewery and some other good ones there.
That's a solid idea. I'll talk to the guys and see what they want to do but this sounds the like the best plan so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
New Glarus is a real nice brewery, small but really nice. They have guided tours, but you can walk through most of the brewery by yourself. All the while drinking their beer you can buy from their tap, and it comes in a free new glarus glass. I like that place a lot.
Well brewery tours are pretty overrated. Once you see one steel fermentation tank you have seen them all, so I would go to the brewery with the best beer.
That makes sense. We would rather have good beer to try as well. Not stuff we could normally get like miller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Don't let the beer snobs persuade you to ignore the big breweries, what is a bigger feat making berry flavored beer or making millions of gallons per year?
