We close on the below piece of ground in August. It has hay, a well stocked pond, row crop (nothing planted) and quite a bit of timber for our area. There is also a 30 X 40 pole barn on it. Our intent is to build a home next year. This will be the first time in a long time I feel like I have great hunting ground right in my back yard.

There is 120 acres ESE to our land that I am calling the deer sanctuary. It's 80% timber and no one is allowed to hunt it. There isn't a through road to the east for 2 miles! Best part is there is absolutely no crop ground that direction. All the crops are to the west of me which means I should have a deer expressway.

I am anxious, excited, and overwhelmed all at the same time. I can't wait to get some cams going to see what is around! Can't decide if I want to try to get a fall plot in and if so what.... Any recommendations?

Awesome man! I can't wait until the day that I can buy me something like this. Totally jealous lol. As far as fall plot. If you are going to have the time, then get it in. Don't push yourself though. Don't want to do too much too soon. As far as what to put in, what are the crops that are to the west of you? If it is something like corn, etc. that will be harvested early to mid season, plant something that is going to thrive in winter. So after the deer finish off the other crops, you will have the only standing buffet around :) Good luck and keep us posted!

Awesome! How much ground is it if you don't mind me asking?

As for the plot, can't hurt to try to get some cereal grains in there. Will grow pretty easily unamended and if you include winter rye in the mix, you should have deer pawing to get to it under snow cover.

It's only 25 -30 acres. I can buy more. Just didn't want to throw a bunch of cash out there because of the home build next spring. Should know that exact number in the next week or so once the survey is complete. I don't think I will have time to spray it. Think it will be worth it? Only thing I must do after close is put in a driveway in the NE corner. Right now the farmer is driving through the neighbors yard to get to the upper field.

Thanks Ty! You know as much as I do about the property at this point. I may certainly need your "Small Acre Hunting" knowledge.

Bahaha...I usually learn the most to assist people right around first week of November from various treestands around the property. Helps give a proper feel...! Get some cams up bud, hope there is a GIANT there for ya.
