Hello! I've recently purchased some archery goods at a deal of a price and would like to start making my own arrows for myself. I could use some help. I have three bows, Bear Kodiak Hunter (1967) (Recurve) AMO – 58 45# @ 28” B-50 Flemish 15 Strand Kings Pawn – By Chek-Mate (Recurve) AMO – 64” 28# @ 28” B-50 Flemish 15 Strand (No Name) (Recurve) AMO – 59” 30# @ 28” B-50 Flemish 15 Strand My pull is about 27". I would like to make a dozen for each bow, 6 for target practice, and 6 for hunting. The Kodiak will be used primarily for whitetail and maybe hogs. The Kings Pawn will be a rabbit and small game. And the nameless bow will stricktly be target practice. I have four bundles of raw shafts; 2 Bundles (Approx 50 each) marked 23/54, 50-55# 1 Small bundle (13) marked 11/32, 45-50# 1 Small bundle (14) marked 5/16, 40-50# I have a box full of feather and rubber fletching of all kinds of sizes. (See picture.) I also have several types of arrowheads to choose from. (I weighed them with my kichen food scale and converted them into grains, so it won't be 100% accurate.) Will include pictures. Fred bear broadheads (Tons.) ~108 grain bare, ~125 grain with a razor insert. Raw “Shaverheads” (Two bags) ~108 grain Bowlo (one bag) ~ 100 grain “H” (No name) ~125-130 grain Bodkin ~ 117 Grain No name (Can add razors to them) ~ 130 grain. I will be buying stains, straighteners and all of the other equipment I need in the coming weeks, but would like to get a jump start. Any and all help will be appreciated! First question: do you have any experience shooting recurves? Second question: do you have archery experience at all? You are correct the Bear Kodiak would be the best choice for hunting. The Chek-Mate would probably be the bow to start with. It will be the best and easiest to shoot and learn with. This site should have all the information you'll need for each bow. http://www.acsbows.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes. The nameless bow is my first bow I shot through my childhood. I had bought a Magyar recurve a few years back, but it was poorly made and de-laminated shortly after the string broke mid shot. (That was a scary experience.) Up until now I haven't been active with archery, it's been a year or two.
Those are some collectable heads (The lil shavers, bears, Hills Hornets "H" and Bowlo) YOu will need to get your hands on some razor blades to insert into those sahvers to make them useful. You may be better served selling them on Ebay and buying some Zwickey heads.
Yeah, some of them are really interesting and I wouldn't mind using, The Bowlo's are really neat. I would like to keep the bears and use them for hunting. I do have some Zwickey screw ins, doesn't really help with wood arrows. I have quite a lot of razors of different shapes and sizes that may work in the shavers, but I don't see myself using them. I may sell some of them online when I have everything sorted.
