I was wondering what the best workout to stengthen my muscles I use to draw my bow with is. I know 90% of you are gonna say to go shoot my bow but there has to be something beside that!?
One arm dumbbell rows and lateral should raises are two that work well to hit the muscles often used in drawing and holding a bow.
Use this every day for a few months. http://www.bowfit.com I made something similar out of an old fishing rod butt and bungees.
rows, pull up, shoulder press. Basically any pull compound excersises and isolated shoulder and lat excersises.
It may sound stupid, but I sit at my work desk and between calls, I hold and draw a couple rubber bands over and over, just like I was drawing my bow back. Quick, easy and can be done almost anywhere.
Double knot one shoe and put all your change in your right pocket. Then, turn your hat around backwards. Beefcake.
Practice is how I prefer to do it. It's way more enjoyable then going to a gym. I do like the lawn mower idea though!
Okay, but my question is why do you want to increase draw weight? Are you shooting very low poundage now? Or just want to feel "more macho"? I'll do curls, bench and pretty much any other arm exercises but I always try to hit the total gym and really work the shoulders.
HUH?? Dude, after reading your post im laughing my butt off and the tears are streaming down my face!! Good one, very funny
I just want to be able to pull my bow back easier, or maybe like draw about 15" back and then the deer looks at you and you can stop drawing the bow and then continue when the deer looks back down.
Shoot your bow a lot! If you get bored try the lawn mower thing. Do some dumbells, pushups, and pullups. Jog around the yard for a half hour to increase stamina. When you get tired, tie a double knot in your left shoe, put all your change in your right pocket, then put your hat backwards and repeat. Note that it's important to be wearing under armor when doing all of this.
Usually people would just lower the draw weight a bit to make it easier. But, there is nothing wrong with wanting to increase your strength I guess. Simply shooting arrows has always gotten me in shape.
