Last year I toyed with the idea, but it wasn't until this spring when I was shooting that I slung a few xx75 down range and my mind was made up. Had a dozen 2219's cut and I'm not looking back. With aluminums my bow is phenomenally quiet, the difference in speed at hunting ranges (inside 35 for me) is really negligible, and they hit like freaking thunder. Looking forward to slicking up an aluminum for the first time in a long time this fall. >>---------->
Good luck! I shoot aluminum for a lot of years and still have some. I just prefer carbon arrows these days because I shoot a lot and have bent aluminum arrows just from pulling them out of a tough foam target. They seem to bend easily on pass through shots too. That's a bummer so I stopped using them. I still like them a lot though.
Awesome! I have considered it myself. I love my FMJs though, and will stick wit them for a while I think. I think the weight is about the same (haven't looked) and they are thinner so less effects from the weather. But, awesome to see someone slinging the old school XX75!!!
I agree, their are plenty of carbon arrow shafts that would compare in weight as the xx75 arrows I think. Then you would have the durability aspect that aluminum doesnt have. Nothing wrong with aluminum and i'm not knocking your decision I just think technology has come along way so it would be hard to use that versus carbon or the carbon/aluminum shafts like the FMJ.
Better uniformity between arrows. More choices of size/wall thickness. Heavier. Look awesome. Kill deer just as dead. Cheaper.
Good for you. I shoot the FMJs because they hit like thunder. I have yet to bend one. Good Hunting this Fall.
Thinking about going back to aluminum too, just put a new set of wheels on my truck... no more flat tires... ;o) Personal choice I guess, just not for me...
Eh...most of these are debatable. Unless you're a world-class archer shooting long distances this is pretty negligible. 99.9% of archers at normal hunting distances will never tell the difference. True, but just because you have more choices doesn't necessarily make them a better option. Most aluminum arrows are somewhere in the 10-12 gpi range. Plenty of carbons in that range today, and lots of ways to add weight if that's your goal. Perhaps. Truth Truth. Even on the low end a dozen carbons is going to run $100 or more. You can pick up a dozen XX75 2117s for probably $50.
I paid $50 on the nose for a dozen 2219's and yes they do look awesome. I was shooting a heavy carbon but there's something fun about kicking it old school. Oh, and they shoot awesome out of my 70 lbs bow. Good for me, bad for deer.
