Looks like there is a chance I will have about 2.5 weeks off in December/January. My deer season is generally wrapped up during that time, and I'm thinking about either hooking up to the boat or grabbing my bow. Open to any suggestions!

I was going the complete opposite way... Head to Lake of The Woods in Minnesota/Canada for a stay in some nice sleeper houses.

It might be too far for you but they crank walleyes out of Lake Winnipeg every winter. I don't know if the timeline would work for you. I'd love to do a late season hunt on the Mississippi River valley too for some big whitetails. Maybe look into some bowfishing down south?

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I remembered Arizona mulies, so that may be an option now. A friend of mine used to do some striper fishing in Arkansas around that time also. Plenty of time to decide I guess.

Bass fishing is actually very good on lakes like Table Rock and Lake of the Ozarks that time of year. The fish group up and they are still putting on the feed bag for winter. If it's a cold fall and early winter it maybe tough. Depends on weather.

Also check out hunting hogs down in Texas.

Oh and if you don't feel like travelling, IL has all kinds of powerplant lakes that are great that time of year but you probably already know that.

Oh yeah, I love me some Egypt, Coffeen, and Newton;)

I have fished the Ozarks quite a bit, but not then. I'm assuming it's a main lake jerkbait bite?

Right now the Arizona muley hunt or a striper trip in Arkansas with some buddies are leading the way.

The muley hunt is somewhat intimidating being out of my element slightly and I would probably miss Christmas, however sounds like the most fun.

The striper trip would be with a couple of buddies, and only a 5 hour drive, but it is damn cold running a boat across a lake in December lol.

AZ Desert hunt that time of year is a blast and beautiful weather. Could book a waterfowl trip somewhere. There are late season migration deer hunts in WA and ID. Mtn Lion over hounds.

I don't fish much so not sure on the suggestions for that side of the fence.

Didn't you do the desert hunt a few years ago if I remember right?

Everything I've read say it's a very tough hunt, with extremely low success odds.

Yeah I went after Coues... it's a low success tough hunt, but an absolute blast. I think Mulies have a bit higher success rate down there.

What were numbers like where you hunted? Muleys would be target #1, but I'd take a coues in a heartbeat if given the chance. Also, did you use a base camp, backpack in, or stay in town? A buddy is trying to sell the idea to his wife, so he can come along and split up gas costs. It would leave us 5 days to hunt, Dec. 27-31.
