I have a small patch of waste ground between two small tree groves. I see no sign of deer spending a great amount of time there but it does appear to be a possible travel route.

Is it possible to broadcast seed turnips in the prairie grass? Will they root and grow or is tillage a requirement.

I specifically want to use turnips because they already have access to grass, corn soybeans and alfalfa. I want to have something that they like and can't get anywhere else in the immediate area.

    Thanks for the advice.

Tillage isn't necessarily needed but if the grass is still actively growing (not sprayed) they won't do much.

So what you're saying is I have to choose between turnips or grass. They don't play well together. Thanks for the tip.

If you want to keep native grass and have it double as a food source for deer, quail and turkey, just light disk it this fall. It promotes legume growth the following spring.
