Don't be too quick to put away Rebel flag, because with the federal government continuing to take ****s on states rights...we might just need them.
I couldn't personally care less about who marries who these days, but I do take issue with the federal government continually over stepping their authority that was laid down in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We are allowing the views of only 9 people to shape the nation. 9 people who basically don't have to answer to anyone. That doesn't seem right to me.
You don't have to "accept" the marriage. Your church doesn't have to marry any gay couple. It simply states that your state now has to recognize the marriage as legal. That's it. Giving people more freedom should never been seen as a bad thing.
What you see as giving people more freedom, I see as the federal government taking freedom away from each and every state. The question is what hot button topic is next on their list to take away from the states? 9 people with nearly unlimited and unchecked power is not a good thing. The intention of the Supreme court was not to legislate from the bench, but that seems to be what they have been doing lately.
The right of states to make their own laws that reflect values and ideals of the citizens of their state. This is just another example of the federal government infringing on states rights.
As a Christian, I do believe that homosexuality is a sin. Yet, I don't have a problem with this freedom. You can't legislate morality. I just hope the government doesn't take away religious freedoms of those who oppose. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
I don't know, maybe the Tenth Amendment. Freedom of the States to legislate on issues that are not specifically called out in the Constitution. As a Christian, my morals and values are for guiding me, not anyone else. I find homosexuality to be a sin and God may look down upon it but the Bible says "If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen." We can debate all day whether people are "born gay" or whether it is "natural", but in terms of acceptance of gay marriage, if the government wants to recognize it, then so be it. They aren't forcing churches to perform gay marriages, so recognizing the piece of paper issued by the state to say a gay couple are married is the same as the piece of paper saying my wife and I are married.
The States are derive the power to govern from the consent of its citizens. If the citizens of a state don't want to recognize an institution then federal government should force them too. Let the states decide just like the constitution intended.
Uhhh.... Just like the Tenth Amendment was written to allow individual states to legislate as the see fit? So you are saying one Amendment is rock solid, while the other can be legislated around by the federal government. Seems logical to me.
Individuals are all granted the same rights under the Constitution, this has nothing to do with individuals liberty . This is purely the federal government forcing states to recognize and redefine the institution, and in some cases directly against the expressed will of the states citizens. Let the citizens of the state decide if that's acceptable not the federal government.
