The part about deer smelling them and them spooking has always been a heavily debated topic. You'll never get a definitive answer.

I do know that if I was somewhere in the deep south or somewhere the bugs were really bad, I was use one in a heart beat. They are absolutely phenomenal for keeping bugs and mosquitoes away. They definitely live up to the hype as long as you're sitting still and the wind isn't terrible. I use mine a lot for 3D shoots and during turkey season. Very rarely do I have to use it during deer season but I have on years where the bugs were bad.

Never spooked caribou or moose when I was hunting in Alaska. Well worth the bug repellant qualities. This thing flat out works

Last weekend I went on a hog hunt down here in alabama. 90 degree Temps with heat index around 100. We hunted close to water a lot. Mosquitos were everywhere. After 24 hours total in the stand, I left with 1 mosquito bite and I got that standing around at camp. A couple of the shooting houses I was in were full of em but after being in there a few minutes with the thermocell there wasn't a mosquito to be found. I also had numerous deer around me multiple times, including one about 5 yds from the tree I was in. I'll never hit the woods without it. I use the earth scent pads too. Never used the other ones.

I think it works very well. I do get concerned about the odor because I do notice the machine putting one off when I use it. I will use it until it screws me over. Then I will probably just go back to my bug jacket.

Kind of my thoughts. I've grown so accustomed to them I often wonder how people hunted the early seasons in the old days. I can't imagine sitting a bear bait without one!

As far as the animals smelling it, if they smell that device sitting in your lap then they can smell you. You put off way more scent than that bug smoker.

YES THEY WORK and they are Worth Their Weight in GOLD!! I have quite a few of them and I have never had an issue with deer smelling them. I dropped one out a stand once and had a doe sniff it and she just kept browsing.

they work and is a must for Louisiana/Mississippi woods...I've had deer come within 10 yards and never smelled it, only time I had a issue with the smoke a big nanny doe looked straight at me and the thermacell was kind of smoking some and she turned and acted a little spooked. It also could have been she seen me but she never ran or blew.
