It seems like the deer around here antler growth is way ahead of where it should be. Seeing lots of buck that look like they are a month ahead of schedule... Anyone else observe anything similar? I was out cutting grass on our lease the other day and saw this guy at a feeder at last light. Sorry for the crap pic. Only had a old pocket zoom camera with me.... Did my best to blow it up to so I could see what is going on with this guy. Definitely on my radar by the look of the mass at the bases.
I have a mix. The one that is further along on my property is a stud though so it makes sense. Maybe that guy will also
We seem right about on schedule here. From what I have seen/ gotten pictures of so far this is about the best.
I think that we are on about the right track here. I only had my cameras out for about 9 days and had to pull them because of flooding, but was very pleased by the bucks that I had on them. I'll have to post up some pics in the next couple days of all the bucks so far.
We had bad winters in 2013 and 2014 so with the EASY winter we got last year we are way ahead. Here is two years almost to the day of the same buck.
I am seeing the same thing here this year bro! I am wondering if the insane amount of acorns last year or how quickly things grew this Spring had a lot to do with it. Whatever caused it, it has the making for an Awesome Hunting Season in 2015!
I have 1 picture from 2012 and I have several from 2013 which is the same year I used to compare to this year. I never went to look for him last year. Was too busy with other areas and a new job. He "should" be good this year. Here is 2012 Here are some 2013's
I have one that seems ahead as well. Was hoping he was just going to be a stud and the growing as only just begun lol. But figured he probably just started early or something.
I'll be checking mine next weekend, three weeks should produce some good ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are probably ahead because they are year older. Everything has to grow at a faster rate as they get older. Many of the deer we have are looking good this year. Where we notice the growth progression is in the 4 and 5 year olds. Mid July into August is a fun time to watch the inches be put on.
I don't think age plays as much of a roll in it as how hard the winter was and how good of a spring it was. I have a ton of bucks from 2012 that started out slower in 2013 and never even got as big because of the hard spring. Again last year same deal. No sign of putting on any extra inches and still behind what they were in 2012 and we had the worst winter on record. To that point though each deer is different. Some will pack in on earlier than others.
