Hey guys, I've been searching for some new land in Missouri and haven't been coming up with anything I'd call reasonably priced per acre to either lease or buy. So far I've tried the following sites: Mossy Oak Properties Whitetail Properties Sports Afield Trophy Properties Land Watch Loop Net National Hunting Leases Base Camp Leasing Do you guys know any others that are worth looking at when trying to search for land?

You can do what I did. Pick the area you want to hunt. Then go on google maps and look for nice looking farms or land. Pick out 10 properties and go knock and talk. Take your business card with you and say something like. Knock..Knock...Knock... Hello Sir my name is ______ and I don't want to take up much of your time so I will get right to the point. I am live in _____ and work for _____ I am a BOW hunter only and I am looking for land for me and my Son or Daugher to hunt this fall. Would you mind if I hunt your property from Oct 1st - Nov 15th or whatever the dates may be. I am willing to pay you a leasing fee and will treat your property like it's my own. I will also hunt at my own risk. If they say yes ask them if there are any deer that are off limits if they also hunt and where you'd like me to park so I am out of the way. You can also ask them where they see the most deer activities. If they say no then say no problem sir. I totally understand here is my business card it has my name and number on it and if anything changes in the future please call me and thank them for their time. About 1 out of 10 will normally say yes. I've even had people call me back to say yes after they have said no. It will take a day or two of your time but I find it's the cheaper way. I've even had an older lady say I could hunt for free if I just helped her fix some things she couldn't around her yard. Gutters, fence etc.. It's worth the time.
Good post...getting places to hunt by doing this is a lost art....It DOES work. I moved to Indiana knowing no one and gained access to over 1100 acres the first year doing this
I'm actually going to do that this weekend as the property I'm looking at is owned by a person in another state. I figure I'd give him a call to at least gauge interest. My biggest thing is I've leased or gained permission my entire life. I live in a new area and honestly am very interested in getting something for more than a few seasons at a time. Guys have been coming in and outbidding me a lot lately, so I'm trying to change things up. Thanks for the advice though. I'll let you all know how it goes after the weekend.
www.trulia.com it has land for sale on it... all the websites you listed are going to be stupid expensive geared for hunters with 7 figure incomes only.
Forget the hunting land "specialists". Their only skill is bumping up the price. There are plenty of good recreational farms for sale by local realtors that don't wear camo.
Craigslist as well. Most guys are getting educated on pricing but we managed to find a good one a few miles from a lease we had in Missouri last year, drove by it while we were out there, looked great just decided to do something different this year. Missouri is a long drive from Vermont and eats up atleast a day of hunting time for every trip out.
Just wanted to follow up on this. Got the call yesterday that I got the property. The out of state mail did the trick. Thank you guys for the advice. I've got got a solid small property close to the house.
This is an awesome way to get property, do your re search and get a couple of property's lined up because you will get some ''no's" And when you do get the lease, you will already be on a more personal level than getting it off a leasing sight. Their guard is already down and they know you! Best of luck
So did some scouting on this land now that I've got permissions to hunt on it. Turns out, I'm not the only one to have permission. It's 30 acres and the spot that I thought would be best is taken. Is it worth working with the other guy and split the 30 acres or is it time to get the boots back out and start walking/knocking again?
