WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is operating a small air force with scores of low-flying planes across the country carrying video and, at times, cellphone surveillance technology — all hidden behind fictitious companies that are fronts for the government, The Associated Press has learned...

FBI behind mysterious surveillance aircraft over US cities

Isn't this a little concerning? Everyone should know about The Patriot Act and that the government is data mining and spying on us so what's the purpose of putting these planes behind fictitious companies? What does everyone think about this?

Seems strange that they need shell companies to pull off the mission. This should not happen on American soil.

The cops work undercover all the time. No big deal.

Why the shell company? A shell company is way different than an unmarked car or undercover operation.

So the airport people don't blow their cover. There is a lot more documentation with air planes than cars. People talk. They always do.

Why not the shell company? Who cares?

Fiscal responsibilities for 1, the searches do not seem random so is this work being done with a warrant? When you set up a shell company to hide expenses and presence it does not seem on the up and up.

Explain how they could operate a airplane fleet without a shell company and nobody from the public could see what was going on.

Do you think the military prepares flight plans for the FAA? The gov't can get in a plane in the air quietly if they want. If the shell companies are operated by contractors, the contractors do not have the same rules that an FBI agent does. It seems like a slippery slope but then again the constitution is an obsolete document according to the current administration.

Blk ops (jr), a bit of need to know and a dash of plausible deniability.

There was an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune 4 days ago about a small plane that circled Minneapolis and the Mall of America for 3 hours one night... Now the "mysterious plane" is explained.

Actually, the thing that suprises me about the story is not that they uncovered manned flights but instead didn't find the use of drones.

Domestic drones at altitudes controlled by FAA would create more problems for an administration.

what I find concerning is that the people who have the biggest problem with it today are the ones who said "if you're not doing anything wrong you don't have anything to worry about" in 2002. Its weird how someone's fundamental belief in protecting the Motherland could so quickly turn after a presidential election.

Time to put the tin foil ha back on.

This really doesn't bother me. If they want to spy on me then go ahead it would just be a waste of their time and money.

The Patriot act was thee worst piece of legislation in my life time, it even beats out obummer care. It gave the government way to much power over the people. Them spying on me doesn't really bother me or would keep me up at night but it's not right, like Melissa McCarthy in a bikini not right. WE THE PEOPLE need to take our country back from these greedy *** sucking politicians.
