Just throwing it out there... Not sure everyone else likes to see the work/progress others are making while in the field like I do and I know it wouldn't be as popular as the "Live from the stand" thread, but it would be cool to see what everyone is up to while preparing for the upcoming season. Thoughts?
Put up 2 lock-ons for early season this past weekend. Need to go back out and trim up some shooting lanes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got a new target from bulldog targets today and did some practice out to 70. Target is way better than those two sitting beside it and it has a lifetime warranty
I'm still waiting to see if we drew tags (tomorrow) and then Saturday, my brother in law (hunting partner) will start mapping and planning our season out.
so far this spring: planted 10 oaks, 10birch, 10 hazelnut, 15 cedar, and 10 red pine made first attempt at a clover/chicory food plot, which is coming in very patchy, with lots of grass. planted and fenced 10 apple trees cut a new access trail because the old one was me "borrowing" the trail deer had already made. This weekend I plan to: plant 3 big bluestem plugs start laying out boundaries for switchgrass bedding area go bowfishing from my kayak. I found a fantastic spot last night, a shallow flat at the mouth of a channel. unfortunately, I did not have my bow with me!
Checked my cams today... Nothing to be excited about. Which is disappointing. I've had great bucks on this property the first 3 years I've hunted it. Switched a few cams... I'm sure they are there, just need to show up. Scouted a few potential stand sites. Crops are coming in great.
I did a lot of field work yesterday and checked cams, 2444 pics later I think I have my first hitlister. All I can tell is that he is got 4+" bases and he will be atleast a 4 pointer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Have really been focusing on my technique and looking at the target instead of the pin and forcing it... I call it "group therapy" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Put up a couple trail cams in some promising elk, moose and deer spots. Had lots of sign around the area. Hope to get some good picks. Broke in the new glendal full rut buck as well. 60 yards nothing but heart shots Although tomorrow is the last day of spring bear season in my neck of the woods, it'll be nice to have a bit over a month or so to set up cams, stands, fine tune the bow, fletch up a fresh dozen FMJs before mountain goat hunting begins in August. Already got a goat hunt planned August 4. Can't wait!
