They have a highly skilled and very educated person on payroll that does that for a living. Several years of school and thousands upon thousands of hours behind computer monitors watching nothing but hours and hours of footage just to make a 40 minute episode. Find some decent software that is easy to use and start practicing. Check youtube for tutorials and start practicing! Good luck!

That's what I have been using and it is great software but pricey and a big learning curve but you can find all sorts of tutorials online for it!

Most home editors can get away with Adobe Premiere Elements which will only set you back $60. It has all the functionality you're going to want and is a little easier to use. As others have said, there's a lot of great tutorials on YouTube.

The best advice I could give is pick a software and learn it. For example you can do a lot with iMovie if you learn it. Either way you go good luck and have fun with it.
