I didn't draw out for the Deer rifle hunt. But, there will be some extra archery tags. So, im gonna buy one. Problem is ive never bow hunted before and first time ive shot a bow was 2 days ago.

At a store I shot the Bowtech Fuel and the bear Authority. Why these because they are about a cheap as I could find.

I would like to stay below $450 for a ready to hunt package. Can you guys offer suggestions? I found the Bear Authority on ebay for $380 with trophy ridge accessories and a trufire patriot release and 6 arrows. Seems to be the best deal I can find but im open to others. If you can help me out that would be great, thanks

im a 29 inch draw and can pull 70 lbs just fine. I will be hunting deer and possible elk.

My advice is to stay away from buying a bow online unless it is from a dealer that will honor the warranty. Just too many unknowns especially for a first time purchase. Some bow manufacturers even void the warranty of a new bow if sold online so watch out for that.

I would make an exception for using the classifieds section here. Good people here that take good care of their stuff. Still, first order of business would be to have it checked out at a bow shop.

My first choice would be to buy a used bow from a bow shop so you can test shoot it and you know that it's been checked over and is in good shooting condition.

The next three things to remember/do: practice, practice, and practice.

Good luck and welcome to bowhunting. Both the sport and the forum.

Check out Xpedition Archery. The people that shoot them are nearly unanimous that they are some of the best bows they have ever shot. Speed and shootability. I have a Perfection on the way and have also shot an Xcentric. Seriously great bows - Xpeditionarchery.com

I've always used a PSE and my father uses a Hoyt which he loves so I'd say either of those two in my opinion.

Everyone is going to tell you their favorite bow. If the Bear felt good in your hands then go that route. You're the one who will be packing it into the woods and drawing on an animal (Lord willing), not us. I'd wager you won't find a modern bow that can't get the job done, so you have to get one you're comfortable with.

FWIW, I found myself deciding between two similar bows a couple seasons ago and went with the Bear. Have had zero issues thus far.

You also can go used, I recently pick up a like new bow from another archery forum classifieds. There are a lot of people that get new bows every year and you can get a good price on a top line bow.

I'd look in to getting a used bow. Bows depreciate like cars so you can get a good one that's a couple years old but in good condition. Make sure the bow fits you(draw length and draw weight). And also shoot it before you buy.
