You learn by making lots of strings and making lots of mistakes. I think that's what Hutch is getting at. There are tons of aspects of bow tuning you can do at home. String making though requires a huge investment in both equipment and time and it's much easier to just buy a quality string from a maker. I've tuned literally hundreds of bows through working at a shop for years and for myself/friends. I have a full bow shop in my basement and I know how to make strings too. With that said when I need one I just buy from one of the dozens of quality makers that are out there.
Okay ill buy for right now but I do want to start learning the ins and outs. Thanks Rick I guess what I need to know is where should I buy my strings from? What's a good material for the strings top be made out of
Give Hutch a try! He's the one who posted on here first. Everyone says good things about him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been shooting 452x for years and have always been happy with it. It's a bit fragile to abrasion and can fray compared to other older materials, but is very stable in different temps, when it comes to creeping, peep twist, etc. I've heard good reviews on BCY-X but have no experience with it. I would say anyone using either of the two materials are using good quality materials. In addition to the string material.......serving material is just as important. Most top end string makers are using Halo for their servings.......the stuff is nearly indestructible.
We can help you out if you need a set of strings pm me and I can set you up with $10 off as a members discount. As for string material BCY X is my number one seller and Trophy is a close second. Both materials are outstanding. X is the faster of the two. As for string building to do it right you would need approx, $300 to start your building and to do it correct. Hutch

My strings are almost brand new but once I get my bow dipped and all of the other parts painted or the strings wear out I'm going to get a set from Hutch since I've read some great things about them.
