Im curious as well, just read a bunch of reviews on cabela's and most of the detailed reviews said it grew great, but 99% rye grass and deer never touched it if they had another easily accessed grass source near by... My dad's cousin can get a good deal on it and he thinks i need to plant it this year but after those reviews, I'm curious. I suppose if you were scraping out a patch of dirt in the middle of the woods with no other fields around it might work well.
From my experience deer won't go outta their way to eat it if a better source is near by but it might help to get a deer to stop and nibble before moving on or crossing a roadbed.
I wouldnt bother with those brand. Out of all food plots ive tried biologic, antler king, evolve and whitetail institute.whats works best for me in the midwest is whitstail institute. Deer actually browse on em from my encounters by deer
Don't use it if u don't have too. Mostly rye grass. Great food choices are alfalfa, ladino clover,Diakon radish, and sugar beets. Mix those together and you'll have a plot deer will go out of there way to get to.
deer don't like grasses typically.... throw and go isn't a term i wish people would utter in the industry.... Check testing dates on all packages of seed bought... Yes, my answer is vague here but big box store mixes are notorious for being old. The last 3 big box stores i was in had seed that was illegal.
My father-in-law has been in a big Throw and Grow groove lately and I even saw two more bags in his shed. All of my experiences with it have left me with a grass plot. I have had it grow well but at the end of the day its all grass. There are better options out there. I used Antler King Trophy Clover and raked it in and that has been perfect for me thus far.
