No the heron still takes fish it can't swallow it just leaves them lay in the yard. The fish line I put over the pond works no more losses.

I was with my brother and he caught two of those. Except the one was all orange and the other one was more white than orange. They both were about 20" long.

Most state game and fish agencies consider koi to just be pretty colored common carp... so if you can shoot commons, you can shoot koi. (after all, they are just pretty colored carp)

Orange/yellow carp appear occasionally in a wild carp population. It's just the color variation that pops up.

That fish in the article doesn't look all that valuable. Too carpy of a head and body. Plain orange isn't a desired color either. It also looks like it is about 7lbs. :)

I don't really like the tri colored koi, I would like to have that one big that eats nothing but acorns that fall in the pond.

The house that we are in the process of buying has a pond on the property with 2 koi in it. One is very light orange and the other is really dark orange Almost like gold fish color. They are both the same size I would say about 12+ lbs.

    Don't they just eat vegetation?

Why do you say it could be a $1000 fish?

Koi at 12" typically go for over $100. Can't imagine what a 24" fish would go for.

Koi eat what is in the pond but we feed ours pellets about every other day, in the tank in the house during the winter we feed usually every day. Don't feed the fish if the water is under 55 degrees.
